Was in my stand last night when movement caught my eye off to my right. After a few seconds I saw it was a yearling. She came right up and walked out in front at 15 yards. I snapped a photo on my phone of her and then stuffed it back in my pocket. She proceeded into the corn field and began eating. I kept an eye out from the direction she came expecting mama at any time. I stood and stuffed my bottom bow tip in the top of my boot.

After about 5 minutes I noticed more movement through the cedars. Here she came. She came through at 10 yards in front of me and I couldn't stand it. She stopped and looked away at a noise and I quickly made my move. The shot was off and looked like a heart shot. I walked out as my arrow didn't go all the way through.
I went back this morning and hunted another stand and saw nothing. At 10 am got down and went to find the doe. Found her 80 yards from the stand where I saw her enter the woods. The arrow went through low just over the front leg and through her heart and broke her opposite leg and is the reason it stopped.

About 30 minutes after she ran off I had another one come up the same way. The weirdest deer I think I've ever seen. This thing had a head the size of a mule and had to weigh 250 pounds. He had two 5" spikes coming out of his bean that were pretty massy. I suppose it was a really old deer.
Great job TJ! :clapper:
Congrats TJ! That looks like a big doe.
Good shootin bud! :archer:
Congrats my brother!!!!

Richard, This stand is in the end of a very small field and there were 5 deer (I knew of) in the corn that is in it when I got down. I slipped out the back door. I have killed four deer out of this spot and it is always a good place. I try to not let them know I am there when I can help it. Believe me you have no idea how bad I wanted to pull it out and forge on after her. Haha. All these fields are standing corn.

Nice deer. Congrats.
Looks delicious. Hope I can get time this next week to hunt a little.
Awesome Bro!!! :clapper: :shaka:
That's a BIG doe!! Congrats and good eatin'!
Congrats T.J. nice doe and looks like a good piece of land you are hunting there by the satelite image...Is that an old barn with a solo on it? Looks like a nice homestead type of farm there...Plenty of woods and some nice funnel areas to set up on...
Keefer,Thanks and yes that is an old barn and when surrounded by corn like it is now makes a great rainy day blind. No homes on this farm.
Congratulations.
Another big 'un Tom! I think you deserve an adult beverage to celebrate!
Great story. Smart move to wait it out so's you're not stinking up the area... you have will power, Hoss! :)
We have a runnin TON of those mule size "spike" bucks around where I hunt... they instituted the 3 point rule in PA, which for most areas is great help, givin the kids a chance to develop, but when you see 4 spikes together, starting with the fawn of the year with normal tiny spikes, then one 20% bigger in body and horn and it goes up to 140# hog deer with bladed 14" spikes... it "ain't" no yearling needing time to develop.
Each year, they breed and more and more are showing up. Branch antlers are almost a rarity beyond a forkie.
Game management works ONLY when it's "site specific" but how do they manage to do that with limited funds and personnel? They don't!
Reading that obviously pushed some buttons... :)
Great shot and deer! I too like sticking my LB limb in my boot when standing... Sweet!
Good Job
Meat in the freezer Tom !
Congrats buddy!!
Wow!!! She's huge Tom, what the heck do you guys feed those deer. Congrats on a well placed arrow!

Thanks for the text response and "big buck advice" as well.... ;)
That's really nice doe; I suspect you are right about that buck being very old,
Nice!
Good job Brother. That's a huge doe
Very nice Brother!!
Well done TJ!
Way to go Tom! Nice big doe. I knew it wouldn't be long!
That is a huge doe! Nice job
Thanks guys I really appreciate it. Been working her up all morning.
Now I know this is a Deer hunters law that is broken but my daughter loves jerky from the backstraps so what's the father of the year supposed to do???
A good soaking in a dark stout for two days. Then for a day in a teriyaki marinade and off to the dehydrator.

Way to go TJ, big ole nanny! I am seeing a lot of big does this year, even small racks with huge bodies.
Those look like pretty thick cuts. Do they go in the dehydrator as is?
way to go brother!
Somebody does some very nice knife work on the sinew and silver skin. I use a Rapala fillet knife and/or a Victorinox boning knife, but mine don't look that good. I've heard it's easier to remove when semi-frozen? Is that your secret?
Congrates TJ! Good shootin and enjoy the feast!
Congrats Tom ! You is stacking 'em up there in KY bud........ :archer2:
She was a nice one. That back strap looked good.
Congrats on another fine deer TJ !!!
Bill

NNNOOOOOOOO!!! Anything but the Loin! Say it aint so, Tom. Please say it aint so.
:dunno: I was thinking the same thing.
Hahaha, a sacrifice for the 2013 Father of the Year award my friends.
My mouth is watering!
Nice job TJ......congrats.
No sacrifice there. I love excellent jerky as much as a hot lion off the grill! Probably just me, but hey JACK, Everybody has an opinion!
I'm with you Charles. Sitting in a stand chawin' on a hunk of loin jerky gets no better.
As long as it gets ate there is no wrong cuts or wrong chunks of meat to use.
I NEVER would have did loin jerky. BUT......
It sure looks good and she will give you many good meals.
Maybe you can send me some of that jerky so I can see how it is suppose to taste.
Congratulations on a very nice animal!
Im just going to have to try some of your jerky Tom. :D
Great lookin doe TJ! I've been wanting to do my own jerky myself
Congrats Tom!
I suspect he's still got some loin steaks left from the doe he killed before this one. He's killed two this season already, which is awesome! Hopefully it won't be long 'til he posts a story about a big ole buck I'm sure he's got his eyes on....it's gettin' close to that time.....
Congrats!!

What I want to know is how you get a hot LION onto a grill in the first place??? :scared:  :deadhorse:
Nice shot! Congratulations.
Way to go Tom! Nice doe.
Didn't know how many other folks put their limb in their boot. :D
Nice shooting on an old doe!
Hrmm, backstrap jerky seems like sacrilege. I'm with Bill. :dunno:
LimBender, Don't let Mr. Dunn steer you down the wrong road. He doesn't even like grits.
Good job TJ. RC
Congrats TJ...Thats a fine specimen.
I'm a fan of Hi Mountain jerky cures and the smoker, but it never seems to last very long :dunno:
Enjoy father of the year!
Dang that's a big DOE!!!
