Title: Bow fishing set-up
Post by: HwgHnter on October 26, 2013, 09:45:00 AM
Looking to buy a recurve strictly for bow fishing & gator hunting. Looking at a Hoyt buffalo 60" 55# and attaching an  AMS gator kit. What are you using & what are your thoughts on what I am thinking?

Hawg hunter
I'm using an old Stotler gamebuster with an AMS reel set up.

PERSONALLY I would not buy a bow that expensive just to bowfish with, now if it will also be used for other shooting I say go for it as the buffalo has great reviews.

I'd jump on the classifieds or another venue for used bows and pick up a bow for cheap to use.  OR just order a Samick sage and viola.

Oh I used electrical tape to attaché my reel

With few exceptions shorter is better especially in a boat. I use a Bear Super Mag 48

Hint: It's the one on the bottom     :D

I installed inserts because I hate the strap on adapter. It looks factory.

Ditto go cheap on the bow & shorter is better.  I use an old Jennings recurve with a hand wound tape on reel (Martin I think).

Sure you could spend more but bow fishing is not a good environment for a bow. They get dropped in the water (usually with you attached), banged around in the boat etc.

My advice is go Spartan so you can focus on & enjoy the hunt instead of fretting over your equipment.
