I took a walk this morning on a new piece of land and had no idea where I was going. Found some good trails though.

Come one, Rob. There's got to be a story with this! :readit:
Thats looks like a promising start lol, looking forward to seeing the end.

Looks like a great trail to follow.
nice!
I got invited to a some private ground with public bordering the backside this morning. I have never been there but it looked good and had about everything a deer/hunter could ask for.
The south wind this morning wasn't really great for this spot but I came up with a plan and started walking. Thick is an understatement for this place. I was beginning to think I wasn't going to find anything I could see more than five feet but it soon opened up a bit.
I had made it to the public and found a small oak flat with good sign...
Yes, and then what happened? :coffee:

After about 3 hours of taking in a perfect October morning I caught movement in front of me. Two large doe skirted about 30yrds out of range. I debated moving down a little for awhile but decided to sit tight.
45 min or so went by and I was really starting to second guess my decision making process for this whole season.
Just then to my right a flash of movement! It's a deer and close. Its a buck! He stops broadside at about 10 yrds but is giving me that look away kinda I saw something move stare. He moves but starts to quarter hard and away. This needs to happen now! Green light. Arrow is away and hits good but what looks to be low and forward. It stays in as I watch him and pink fletch disappear down the hill.
Alright!
:campfire:
Tuned in!
Bisch
I give him some time then decide to take a look at first blood. Its bubbly and heavy. The tree shark had done its job and about 30 yrds later I find the arrow. Good blood, intact, and what looked to be good penetration.
I took up the trail but it got longer and longer. Still good bubbly blood but what was looking like a single lung. I was about to turn back and give him time when I jumped him up at the base of a steep ravine. He ran almost to the top but stopped and sat down. I watched and knew it wouldn't be long. I wanted to get another arrow in him but everything was so thick I thought better of it.
I watched for what seemed like forever. He finally got up made about 3 steps and went down. Silence. After a tense stalk up the hill this is what I found.

Low??? Perfect!! Congrats. . . WOW!
Great story. Great shot! Thank you!
I have to add that the broadhead was the same one Owlbait gave for my month with the St. Judes bow last year. He had killed deer with it, I killed deer with it then and it seems to still have some mojo.
Rob
congrats Rob, that is a fine buck!
Congrats!
Good job, Rob! Those sharks are wicked. Gotta love those Simmons blood trails. I had one like that with a Tiger Shark this fall...little smaller head...little smaller hole...same nasty blood trail.

Hey Rob,
Congrats on a nice buck. It did indeed look like a beautiful morning! I was out scouting, here in PA we are not allowed to hunt Sundays. You said you was walking checking things out. Found your area and then sat for 3 hours or so before the encounter with the does. Did you end up shooting your buck around noon Or later?
The reason I ask is because of the full moon. Seems hey was moving late or at midday. That's why I ask. Putting some puzzle pieces together from some other posts and area observations locally and what guys are saying thanks
Congratulations on a nice buck!

What a great deer Rob! I know exactly what it's like to be in a set up and really be second guessing yourself. I did this on a 'hang on hunt' type of area last year and ending up coming home really successful that evening. It pays to stay put sometimes.
