Title: Selfbow with built up handle?
Post by: buckeye_hunter on October 20, 2013, 08:31:00 PM
Does anyone make, or has there ever been a selfbow made with a bit of a recurve grip? Kinda like a Zipstick, Lostcreek or a Kanati Bow?

I was thinking that I would like to try a primitive bow at some point, but I hate handshock. Is there some way around the handshock and would a built up handle cause problems with balance and tillering?

Thanks,
Charlie

If you make an even tillered bow and keep any extra mass off of the limb tips there won't be any hand shock.  A self bow can be very smooth to shoot if its designed and built properly.

You can have a built up handle if that's what you want.  I've seen a lot of beginners make them with a handle that resembled a recurve.
