Title: Introduction
Post by: mainbutter on October 19, 2013, 10:42:00 PM
Well this is my first post on this site, so I figured I'd just post a little introduction about myself.

Four quick fun facts about me:
- I live in MN
- I made maple syrup for the first time ever this year.. super fun and highly recommended!  Walking through the forest on snowshoes and stoking a campfire is great medicine when you're sick of living in a city.
- My basement is full of snakes.  On purpose.  Seriously.
- My fiance and I have been gardening for a few years since we've graduated from college, 50ftx50ft fenced garden.  Two years ago we had 600 lbs of produce.  Last year we managed just over 500lbs.  Today we closed 2013 out with a grand total of 1107lbs including our garlic that is planted outside of the fence!

Why traditional archery?  For the same reason fishing lures carved out of wood and flies tied by hand are cooler than plastic ones manufactured by a machine.  For the same reason that target shooting with my blowgun and slingshot is more meditative than with a rifle or compound bow.  Also, I'm not going to hunt whitetail with a slingshot or blowgun.

I've only been hunting for two years, but already I'm realizing I enjoy sitting and watching more than I do shooting at stuff.  I probably enjoy target shooting even more than I do hunting, but I do prefer to fill my freezer with free-range wild game than with farm-raised boneless chicken breasts.  Mostly though, as I was sitting beneath a tree this morning watching a spruce grouse do "bird stuff", I took one look at my compound bow and it just seemed out of place.

I've been stalking this site for a short time now, and figured that I might as well register and participate.  I'm hoping to learn as much as I can, and also hoping to be able to contribute as best as I can  :)
