Title: Getting close to ending my season
Post by: MnFn on October 19, 2013, 04:58:00 PM
I had the blessing of spending yesterday afternoon with my grand daughter   (Kingsley) hunting  whitetail with a bow and arrow.

We went out early enough to hang another tree stand up before we started our actual hunt.  It was a great time because I was able to explain why I had chosen this particular  tree.

Actually it started earlier in the day when we visited three good will stores looking for a medium weight jacket for her to hunt in.  We ended up also buying a larger flannel shirt that had the perfect colors to go over the jacket as camo.

Later on when we were at our stand we had the chance to watch four deer come around us.  My grand daughter learned an awful lot about how deer act when feeding, at first when they were not alarmed but also as they came within thirty feet and caught one of us moving. I was able to explain why one doe walked around us to get down wind of something she did not trust but was unsure what we were. Until she hit our scent stream anyway!

I did not take a shot even when we had a doe at about fifteen feet because I am still hoping to get a chance at a couple of nice bucks in the area. Kingsley was ok with that also. She had a great adventure fording a creek as well.

Now, I am just waiting for the right wind to hunt out of my new stand.  I was hoping for today especially because the Dakotas are forecasted to get some snow today but the wind is out of the Northwest and that won't work at all, hopefully Monday.
But I am feeling very confident about future encounters right now.
Hope your hunting is going well also,
Gary

Took my 6 year old out with me in our ground blind.  Of course he grew restless, ended the day watching the sunset out in a corn field.  Watched three does cross the road near the blind.

Sometimes I get so focused  on big bucks that I forget about spending time teaching my  grand kids about something I am very passionate about.  Shame on me for that.  So soon they will be caught up in so many other activities the window of opportunity is open for only so long.

Sounds like a great experience for her (and you).  Good luck in your new stand.
