Title: Arrow nock tightness question
Post by: jakesdad on October 19, 2013, 03:57:00 PM
Just received my order of GT traditionals today, and noticed on my string they dont fit very tight.I know they arent supposed to be locked on,but seem fairly loose. They will stay on if I hang them off the bowstring, but one little tap of the bowstring or nock and they fall right off.Is this normal for GT arrows?Any remedies to fix or should I leave it?(Im shooting a Samick Sage with fastflight string I ordered from 3rivers)Thanks!

Strings will vary in thickness, due to variations in string type, serving, etc.  The nocks should fit tight enough that you don't have to worry about them falling off the string when you draw the bow, particularly if you shoot with a 3 under grip.

If they seem too loose, you can hold them in boiling water for about 30 seconds and then squeeze them together with your fingers.  They should stay in the new tighter position after the plastic cools off.

If they are too loose, the other solution is to re-serve the string with slightly thicker serving. This is a simple skill that every archer should learn. Lots of good videos on YouTube, especially the one by 3Rivers.

Sounds perfect. I file the insides of mine to get them to fall off with a light tap!

You can also tie dental floss on the serving.

I hate dropping arrows out of the tree and if my nocks are loose like yours I drop them. I want my nocks to have a little grip on string not much but tight enough that it takes more than a slight tap on the string to knock them off. I like a faint click onto the string. If string is too skinny for that faint click I use either an arrows width wrap of the aforementioned dental floss right under the nock set or some fine sewing thread.

i don't care for the GT nocks at all. if you get them to where they come off the string with a slight tap like they should be, they are really loose on the string and slide up and down.

I just ordered some bemans S nocks and they are much better. PN 013347 fits the GT 55/75's perfectly.

Bohning Signature Nocks are tighter (too tight for me on my Flemish 15-strand B50 string, I use Easton Super 3D Nocks).

I'd really like to see a comprehensive list of nocks w/ their throat diameters and how flexible the plastic is --- does anyone else feel the transparent colours aren't as flexible as solid?

I will second the dental floss to bump the diameter up a skosh before going all out and reserving.

Personally, I like my nocks to make a Sound CLICK when they are seated on My serving. Not so hard that with enough of a Thump on my string they dont fall, but they dont just slip off. Just My 2 Cents!

I do the dental floss some times if they are way loose, but most times I can just pinch them a little and they will adjust down. They may spring back a little after you shoot them, but just pinch them down again until they stay where you want them. Usually a little tighter than ideal at first, but they spring back some. I don't bother with heating them.  I do like the Easton super nocks a lot and those can be opened and closed by hand with no heat,  They are deeper so stay on a little better with less pressure I think.
