SO... Why the title "Rejects and Seconds" Its simple really. That is what Im shooting. The arrows are 15/35's that were far to short and weak to shoot from my 52# Zipstick. To correct that I added 1" by cutting another piece of carbon shaft then footing over it all with a 5" piece of aluminum shaft. It worked. The arrows are now stiff enough and long enough for me to shoot. Of course I'm shooting Grizzly's and you guessed it! They are seconds. These heads had some minor bowing to them or the grind was not just right. They are not good enough to sell but still plenty good enough to shoot. They actually spin relatively well. :rolleyes: Whats important though is they shoot VERY well. My bow is a Zipstick that was built for a customer but came in too heavy. It just happened to be the right weight for me. I did build a quiver to match it so I guess I'm spoiled in that respect. :D
More later the electrician is here to wire up another grinder for Grizzly. I'll be back

I've never found that "firsts" were required. Consumers are picky, but price point can make 2nds a very cool thing to finagle into fine firsts with a bit of effort and ingenuity!

Sorry for the delay. I did not mean to leave you guys hanging. I just did not expect the electrician yet.
Where were we? Oh, The rejects and seconds are all tuned up deer season is in and the weather was perfect. It was one of those cool dreary days that are so perfect for good deer movement. Late afternoon came along and I could not resist any longer. I had to go to the stand!
On an earlier scouting trip of this farm I noted that the farmer had started cutting the beans but got rained out. He made a couple of trips around the field before the rain came. With the heavy cover that bordered a creek to my right and the cut beans 30 yards from the field edge on my left.This made a couple of perfect edges to funnel the deer as they made their way from the thick beading cover to the oaks that were in the larger wood lot about 100 yards to the north me.
I had been in the stand for about 3 hours when I saw a couple of deer moving back in the cover just south of my stand.One of them made its way into the bean field and started to feed on the beans.Cool I though at least I'll have some deer to watch until something comes in closer.
It was not long before the second deer came into the field.The first deer looked to be a nice doe but this second deer was much larger.
They picked at the beans for a couple of minutes and then turned and started to feed in my direction. Things quickly went from "cool some deer to watch" to hey I may get a shot here!
As I took the first picture in this post both deer started to trot in my direction. As I had hoped the cut beans and thick cover turned their route right to me.I quickly stuffed the camera/phone in my pocket and got a hold of my bow.
This bow has been very good to me. I took it on a couple of pig hunts this spring and was lucky enough to put 2 porkers in the freezer with it and the rest of my reject equipment.
Back to the task at hand!!
The deer are now trotting right to me with the smaller of the two in the lead. I could not imagine what had spooked them. As it turned out the deer were not trotting because they were spooked. I guess the acorns under the oak tree I was in must have been calling to them and the deer just could not wait any longer.
I expected my shot to come on my left side into the bean field but as the larger doe got closer she decided the honeysuckle directly in front of me was just too inviting. She pulled up on her trot and slowed to a walk. She was looking around awful hard. Almost like she suspected something.
As the big doe was surveying the area. The other doe came under my tree and started to crunch on the acorns. The smaller deer was now within 10 yards and I could easily see it was no doe.It was a large for his age button buck. Good to know! He was no longer an option. Not that I was too worried about him any way. Not with this big ole' nanny stuffing her face with honeysuckle 15 yards away and nearly broadside.
She took a few more mouth fulls while looking around. One good step later to reach for another bite and she was in position for a shot.
As I was picking my spot. I remember thinking she was not perfectly broad side so I crowded her front shoulder just a little more than I usually do.Once I picked my spot that's the last I remember about the shot. In the next heart beat the doe was running off and my arrow was stuck in the ground on the opposite side of where the deer was just standing.

Usually for some reason,when I make a really good shot. I don't remember the particulars about it. It just happens! That's just the way it was with this doe. I knew it was a good hit and the doe could not take it far.I was able to watch the doe run up the edge of the field for a good 75 yards. Honestly, I was a little surprised the big girl made it out of the field but she did.
The button buck that was under my stand at the shot turned and mowed a path through the beans on his way out of the field. Even though he had no idea what had just happened. He was wasting no time making his retreat!
Once the field was empty of deer. I sat back in the stand to kill a little time before I tracked my deer. While I was waiting I sent Tom and Mike a text to tell them the score was now tied up. 1-1 and 1. :D Tom was having none of it without photographic proof. I though no problem. Just hold your horses. I told Tom I was going to go back and get Moe. Moe had only been on one good track since about June when we went pig hunting last. Tom agreed that it would be a good idea to keep him tuned up.
Once I got back to the house. I decided to take my hunting clothes off so I did not get them all bloody. Moe knew what was up just as soon as I walked in. He must have smelled the blood on my arrow since I had my bow with me. He was READY to do his part! Once I got changed and grabbed his tracking lead there was no doubt in his mind he was up. Like any dog. He loves his job and gets so excited about it. Having a tracking dog involved only extends the hunt for me. I really enjoy it but not as much as Moe!Moe and I loaded up and headed back to the scene of all the action.

Congratulations on the deer.
Once we made it back to my stand I started Moe on the track.A couple of short minutes or less later Moe was at my deer. Before I could even fight my way through all the briars. Moe was having a big time pulling hair out of my deer and licking the blood off of it.As it turned out the doe made it about 100-125 yards before giving up.From the time it I shot the doe until she was down for good could not have been more than a few seconds.

Sorry, Ron. I had him tied off so I could gut the deer without him trying to climb inside her. :rolleyes: It was bad enough cleaning him up as it was. I took 11 cockle burrs out of his hide plus I had to give him a bath. That will teach me to take him on a track when Tracy has to work. :biglaugh:

Great shoooting Brother. I to on some shots blackout. You know when that happens everything is on autopilot and instincts take over. And that is usually a good thing in the end result.

:biglaugh: I'm not sure, Jeff. He is funny though. When we go somewhere on a hunt and Moe gets to do some tracking. He actually gets depressed when we go home. He mopes around with his head hung low and ears pulled back. He is that way for a good 2 or 3 days.
