This post is meant to be a preview.A look at the 3 blade we will have available early next year.
New for 2014. We are going to offer a non vented 3 blade Grizzly. We have been working on this on and off for over a year!
One of the most difficult aspects to designing a non vented 3 blade.More specifically one that I could build with my punch presses has been keeping the weight below 200 grains. Designing fixtures to assemble a head with so many pieces was the next major challenge.
The dies are being cut. The assembly fixtures are designed and prototypes fixtures are made. With help from friends we are in the process of designing a new grinding system to put an edge on these 3 blade heads.
Any how here is a computer drawing of what the head will look like. The overall length is 2 3/4". The cutting diameter is 1 1/8".

Oh baby! Nasty ol girl
Awesome ! Will it have an integral insert (pictured) or is that to be added by the user (if needed)?
ChuckC
That looks like a neat head. I'm trying to get my first this year with your two blade.
Looks good!
175 grain...perfect
3 blade...perfect
Made by Bill Dunn...perfect.
I will be buying some of these!
Lookin good Bill!

They will be a glue on style head.
Very cool Bill
Bill,
You are the man! You said you could make this happen and you have, Congrats!!! That is a great looking head. Any idea on the price point yet? If you start a pre-order list Let me know.
NOW your talkin!!!!! BILL
Glue on non-vented. Perfect!!
So, they can end up between about 190 and 275 grains, maybe a bit more, by playing with inserts or simply 175 as a glue on. Nice
ChuckC
Looks a lot like the old 300 Xtreme except glue on. Nice looking head, with a 100 gr broadhead adaptor they would be 275 gr, just about perfect for my style.
Looks good... What is suggested retail price?
The models show between 165-175 grains. Really its going to depend on grinding. Once we have a few hundred ground we will know for sure what weight they will fall into.
The price? Its hard to know for sure because I dont know just how long it will take to weld or grind these heads. Its likely to fall between $50-$55 for a 6 pack. Far less than any other non vented 3 blade!
Your right,Danny. These 3 blades will be the same dimensions as the Grizzly's.
I have to get back to work now. I'll answer any other questions when I can.
Bill
Good stuff Bill. I was just thinking about this yesterday, you know why, And today it is reality.
:bigsmyl:
Looks like a great head...and just my specs too. I'll be trying them.
Look great Bill!
When you say early next year do you mean Kalamazoo??
Nicely done Bill!!!!
Very Very Nice!
Nice work!
Double bevel???
Awesome looking head! Is there a 25gr. adapter anywhere? I have the 5gr. brass ones but wasn't sure if there was ones that weighted more.
Now,,,,that's what I call a killer head. Very nice.
Awesome!
I like them! 165 would be perfect as 35 grain inserts are easy to find to get to my 200 grainers and a 75 grain would put me at 240, close enough on my 250s.
D.P.
Just a suggestion but I bet a 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" 3 blade would be a hot seller.
Single bevel option?
I like it!!!
chris <><
Nice! I'll have to give them a try when they're out.
You mentioned the other day that you had something new in the works! Never saw this one coming!! Great looking head, can't wait.
Glenn
Now we're talking! Can't wait to see them!
Very nice!
yeah baby!
:readit:
Bill you da man
Awesome!! You da man!
Looks good Bill,
You have been busy!
I like big wide 3 blades like Snuffers too, but I have to say I have killed about 10 deer and a bear with a 1 1/8 3-blade and I haven't seen a big difference in killing effectiveness. 160 Snuffer or a 1 1/8 both leave a lot of blood.
D.P.
I'm going to have to put a vote in for a 125gr. Too.
Bill,
They look like kitty slayers to me.
Any chance a couple of prototypes might fall into that "Purple" shipment in a couple of weeks? You have my information if they do. ;)
Really like the weight, 165 grains on a woodie yikes!!!
I WANT SOME! Looks like a winner with a decent price to boot! I will order six as soon they're available!
I had a little bird tell me that a 3 blade Grizzly was in the works!
I hope you use the same steel as the regular Grizzlys.
175g is perfect in my opinion. I'm really excited to get some of these!!
Well done my friend !!! Glad the cat is finally out of the bag. :D
Bill
Prayers do get answered. You can count me in.
Sorry I'm so late getting back to your questions. It was just to perfect of an evening not to slip out to the tree stand for a few hours. A big ole' slick head happened into range and ended up with a Grizzly run through her.
Delivery date?
I can't really say for sure. I am trying to have some for Kzoo but that will only happen if all the stars align. Things just dont usually work out like that. Especially with something this new to us.
Larger sizes 1 1/4"?
A larger cutting diameter is a possibility BUT that requires more dies. It is not cheap to have dies built and its going to take some time just to recover this investment. Dont look for the wider heads any time to soon.
single bevel or double?
The 3 blade will be a double bevel.
What steel?
We are going to use the same steel as the Grizzly's are made of. 1075 carbon steel. The plan is to also make them the same hardness as the Grizzly's.
No prototype heads in the house right now, Walt. Its going to be a few months. The dies are suppose to be ready about mid to late Nov.I plan to have the steel sitting here waiting for the dies. Even if everything was to go perfectly it would still take 5-6 weeks before we would have heads on hand.
Thanks for all the encouragement folks!
This has not come easily and it has not come without the help of some GREAT FRIENDS.
Bill
:clapper: Let me know when you get'em ready!
If only it was coming in 200 grains this would be the ULTIMATE glue on broadhead!!!!! I don't like adapters.
Looks good Bill. Congrats on the doe!
Great looking head, I'm definitely interested.
sweet! I know what I will be shooting out of my longbow next year!

You can always tamp a little lead into the ferrule and you could probably hit 200gr fairly easily. Looking at the design I'd imagine that the ferrule is much deeper than you need for the point taper.
Will these heads be hollow ground? I think that might be a nice idea with the 3 blade expecially because it allows you to put an edge on them very quickly without using course stones and bulk material removal. Since you'd be honing at a steeper angle than the factory grind it would be very fast to get to a razors edge.
Looks super. Definitely will give those a try
Bill, BH looks great. Been waiting on a good solid 3 blade bh for a couple years now, Looks like you got it, I can't see anything I would change on it.
Bob
I want some!
Bill,
I had to try :biglaugh:
Maybe you will have some ready before my Brown Bear hunt in Alaska next spring.
Nice look.
Those BHs look pretty well designed, good luck Bill.

Going up in weight with these heads will be easy. It will only require a change in steel thickness. You can also do as LittleBen suggested. That is a great way to get the weight exactly where you want it.
Walt, We should have plenty of heads by spring!
Thanks for the support all! This is a huge deal for us. I think it will be a good addition to our broadhead line.
Looking foward to these!
I love the looks of that! I like Grizzlys for a two blade head, but have been mostly a 3 blade guy for the majority of what I do. This is the best of both, and I will absolutely want a couple of packs of these.
Anxiously awaiting production!
I want a dozen to start. Picking them up in KZoo would be awesome:)
Looks like it will be a fine head. I really like the 2 blades and the 3 blade will be a fine addition.
Oh my! That is a cool design! Hopefully we can test them out on some hogs early next year!
I will be giving these a shot - need any testers?? :D
AND, do they have a name? :jumper:
:clapper:
Bill They look great bud...good luck!
And congrats on the doe :clapper:
Thanks guys!!
We are not 100% settled on a name yet, Will. I do have it narrowed down to 3 or 4 possibilities. In the end I may just see what the gang thinks. :dunno:
Man I like the looks of that...I was thinking of using a woodsman on my arrows when I finally get re equipped in trad...but you have got me thinking my good man! Nice product
Is there a Glue On Model in the Works??
Shakes, it is a glue on. The picture is for reference only.
I like the glue on's, with the assortment of inserts available today and some fishing lead, I can almost make any weight head that I want!
Benjy
O baby I need some of these for next year for sure its about time we got a good 3 blade on the market. And who better to bring it to us then the Zipper family
Can't wait to see them Bill you can count me in for a half dozen

I have also successfully ground adapters down to achieve exact weight.
Nice looking head Bill. I am definitely interested. I am a two blade fan but these make me want to try the three blade. I have found that using lead #7 1/2 to #9 chill shot glued in the ferrule works great for changing weights. Gary
I think this needs another run on the front page!
Bill, I can send you a picture of me with a hog to put on the packaging if you would like!
Benjy, no way, I am cover boy this time with my monster SC hog.
Hmmm, Tom, I can't believe that no one is challenging us for the cover! :D
Benjy
I think you two jokers are the cover boys for America's most wanted! :biglaugh:
Yeah I like the looks of these Bill. Congrats on getting it done...very exciting.
Can't compete with gator and hog slayers! :D
Tool and Die maker says the dies should be ready for delivery in a couple of weeks.
The steel should be here on Dec. 6th. Then my headaches really begin. :D
Bill
I want some as soon as they are available.
$50 to $55 range for a 6 pack! This is going to be a very popular head! I will be buying some for sure.
Wow.... Now that's a good looking BH ! I will be ordering some that's for sure.

Amen to that Jason. Can't wait to get some!! Thanks Bill!!
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Bill Dunn...AKA James Brown...the hardest working guy in Traditional Archery!
TTT for The TreeDancer.
(he's excited for em too)
Though I should let you all know where we are at with this.
The steel is here. I'm ready as soon as I get the dies. The blade die is complete but the farrel die is giving the tool and die makers some fits. There is a lot going on in that farrel. Lots of angles. I'm still hopefull that we will get the dies soon so we can have some prototypes to show at Kzoo. Time will tell.
Bill
Sweet!
:-)
I have some samples from the dies. They are only about a month late. That seems to be the way it goes with anything new. It always takes longer than is expected. The dies need a little tweaking yet but they are close.I think its only going to take a couple of changes to have them correct.
One good thing is my fixture for assembling the broadheads is working. Of course it also took a little tweaking but thats to be expected.
Bill, These are going to be a great head! Its like any Castle..... The foundation takes the longest time to build, once thats perfect, you will have a better structure.
I am heading to Georgia for 7 days of pig hunting the end of this month. You should ship me a few so we can show how the perform:)

I would love to be able to do that but these are only samples of what the dies are producing right now. Just pieces that I have spot welded in my fixture. They do look like the broadhead but they are far from ready for service. They are not brazed, heat treated, teflon coated or ground. The dies need corrections before I can take a sample any farther than this right now.
You are correct, Charlie. We will get there. Its just taking longer than I had hoped.
Bill
Bill, just saw this thread, don't know how I missed it. Great timing, these heads have Bear Medicine written all over them.
You should have the bugs worked out in time for my early June
Manitoba bear hunt.
I like the glue on option, my son shoots 200 gr. heads, I shoot 250 gr. one head will work for both of us.
Keep everyone updated.
Roy
Really looking forward to seeing these in person.
Bill
Let me know when they ready. I would like to buy a few to give a try. i`m loving the two blade heads.RC
At the price point you stated they should do well in the three blade market. Great looking head.
THIS IS NOT THE FINAL PROTOTYPE. This picture is to show you where we are now.I thought you all might like to see what we have at this point. Like I said. The farrel die needs some changes.I'm sure you will spot the changes that need to be made.
Where we are
This one was ground by hand. That is why the grind is goofy.

Love the updates Bill! Thanks for taking the time, very interesting.
Should be a hit!
I can tell just by looking at them what I will be hunting with next season!
Looks great Bill. I hope you have a few to show off in Kalamazoo, but either way they are on my list.
Looking forward to trying some !
Bill,
I am really excited about these heads! I think you will have a real winner on your hand. Also, I am sure that these will be top notch, just like everything else you make.
We are patiently waiting.Know it will be a great broadhead
Just bringing this thread back up again...

I got to check out the prototype at K-Zoo. I can't wait to hunt with these! Y'all are going to love them.
I was able to talk with Bill and see this three blade head "in the white" (assembled but without finish). He put a lot of thought into these heads and they are going to live up to what people expect from the Grizzly name. Tough and penetrating! I am looking forward to the release.
Bill
Way to keep at bringing quality products to market. Not a lot of companies in today's day and age want to put forth the effort and all the headaches of launching something new.
:clapper: :clapper:
Guys--How do you think these heads will stack up against the VPAs? I was thinking about trying the VPAs this year, and they do offer screw-in models. Now, decisions, decisions... Peace!
