I'm just wondering if anyone made meat yesterday? Well I didn't have to work ,Bucky and I had the chance to get out together. We stayed in until 10:00 AM.No deer, had three pair of squirrels running around the tree all morning to keep me on my toes.On the way home the bank clock/termommeter read 89 degrees. Come on frost!!
Your a good man to hunt deer in those temps.!
Early morning wasn't bad at all Joe.If skeeters were deer would have filled my tag! It was a double pleasure sort of no work and watching the woods wake up.Man oh man did I need that Bud!My kind of Therapy!
Just too hot for me. Wasn't about to cross the river to sit in that heat. Besides, trying to make meat in the heat, no thanks.
Stayed until 8:30. Had one doe with two fawn pass at 40 yards then another doe and fawn a little later came by at 10 yards I passed on the doe (getting soft in my old age...LOL). They both bedded down 30 yards away so I just watched them groom each other until I had to leave. I didn't want to spook them completely as I was getting out of the stand so I through my voice pretending I was two guys walking through the woods talking to each other. Worked great because they slowly got up and walked away.
I hear you Jerry.Would have needed a refridgerated truck to get her home. Mike at least you saw deer.Great idea too.
Andy and I saw 2 does and 11 turkeys. Too bad the zone we were in wasn't open yet.
I was wondering myself who had gone out as I watched my daughters play soccer in that sweltering heat! Come on cool weather!
Was out allday, Had the 10pointer under my stand for 71/2minutes ( Got it on Video ) saw 2 fawns last hr of light. They came down 50yards away. Wasn't really hot in my woods, had a nice breeze.
Yesterday was my son's first "hunt". He's not actually hunting yet...just along to see what it's all about.
Sat for about 4 hours in the morning. Had a red fox come by at a trot. Other than that, it was quiet. I was sure he was miserable.
Went to another blind in the afternoon. About 7:00 I stood up to stretch my legs. When I did I realized that if something came by, I wouldn't be able to easily get a shot. There was a big limb right in my way. So, sure enough, here come 3 nice does. I didn't even see them until the first one was right in position for a shot. Just shy of 7 yards from me. I was waiting for her to turn her head so I could crouch for a shot. After about a minute she spooked and took off. I had no idea why, because the wind was in our favor, and I was sure she hadn't seen me.
The other 2 wandered back the way they came. I took advantage of the chance to get back into position. After about 5 minutes, here they come again, but not all the way to the clearing. After about 15 minutes of trying to bust us, they wandered off away from us.
I turned to look at my son. He had a huge grin on his face, and gave me a big thumbs-up. He said "that was awesome, Dad!" :bigsmyl:
When we got back out of the woods, we were talking about why they spooked. He said he was looking in a different direction when they came in...he didn't know they were there. When he turned back, the lead doe saw him turn his head a little too fast.
Even though I didn't make meat, I'd have to say it was definitely a successful hunt.
Eric sounds like you and your boy had a great time.
We shoot three does opening morning. So we were after a buck I made a bad shoot on a 120 inch 8 point and we never found the deer. I have till Friday to get a buck and a couple more does.
It was hot. I jumped 2 does and The buck I have been after for 3 years . I missed him last year and the year before that I would see him but no shots. He is a monster now. I went in my stand and they must have been close enough to hear me because they busted me again and just let out a steady stream of snorts as they went around me. I won't hunt that spot for a wile to see if I can get them calmed down.Hunting spots are limmited where I am and I don't want to be in a spot that all the deer know about AGAIN. Last year I was busted and the rest of the season the deer were so spooked I never got one. Need another stand to fall back on. J.Michael
Just my luck, all I saw were bucks. Not a single doe. For those not from NJ, you have to take a doe first in the early season.
Around 8:30 I decided to head towards water. Lots of sign but no deer.
It was too hot in the afternoon so I went scouting for geese along the Delaware. The only ones I saw were at the bumper boats on Rt. 209. Can't wait til that corn starts coming down.
I got one this morning Monday 10, 2007 Pic's & story WOW I GOT MY FIRST!!! (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=049934)

Only on the PA side.
As an old Knowlton Twp boy now out here in sunny Tucson, I can say I really miss the woods and the farm country of northwestern NJ. I use to hunt a good buddy's small farm in Knowlton where I took some really nice bucks. Heading back east (halfway) to Tenn as soon as our house sells. Still 102 degrees out here and I can't take it any more. Good hunting Jersey boys and don't complain about the heat cause you don't know what hot is until you've been out here
Was out this afternoon and saw lots of deer, some let me pratically walk right up to them. To bad it was on a golf course. The clubs were begging me to play.
Seriously though the deer were all over the place, it was fun just watching them do their thing unafraid of people.
Mike it's like they can read.Golf Course, Safety Zone, etc etc .
Hey Flatshooter, I've been hunting columbia lake in Knowlton the past few days. Had to pass on some bucks since it's doe first now.

Hey Jerry! Good to hear from a Trad guy from my old stomp'n grounds. I used to live on Koeck Road in Columbia. Never had to go far to hunt. Have a great season and shoot a big one!
