Talk about luck, the good lord sure shined on me today! First trad kill shot with a shark broadhead 190 grain with a 100 grain brass insert. Took out one lung and broke the shoulder on the other side.He made it about 60 yards and nose dived several times, guys it was great!!! My buddy was on the same ridge and texted me this deer was heading my way did not tell me it had 8 points.lol thanks Luther for the text and the help getting him out...

Niiiiice! Handsome deer.
Congrats! Good thing you wasn't in Ohio, That type of communication is illegal here.
are you serious!!
Nice deer - Congrats!
Pope and Young doesn't allow electronic devices for the rules of fair chase. "By the use of electronic devices for attracting, locating or pursuing game or guiding the hunter to such game, or by the use of a bow or arrow to which any electronic device is attached."
Whether an alerting call or text is "guiding" the hunter is open to debate; I guess. If your guide says "look left" he expects a big tip if you look left and see and take a nice head of game.
Yes any communication device used to aid someone else in taking a deer is illegal in Ohio.
Congrats on your first trad kill! I'll bet you are really hooked on trad hunting now, huh?

so if a guy text you and said i see a buck and he is heading your way and you are a half mile apart and it would make book it would not count... interesting did not know that, but makes sense. no worries here.lol

It has nothing to do with the Pope & Young record book in Ohio it is ILLEGAL to use a communication decide to help aid in a deer kill. In other words it is technically "poaching" to do that in Ohio. A bit overkill I agree but rules are rules. Congrats on your kill though. Heck of a nice first trad buck!!
The communication devise didn't take the buck or aid in taking the buck. A well tuned arrow from a stickbow did. Don't taint this special moment by picking it apart. Well done and congrats.

Agreed. The proper thing to do in my opinion would have been to start another thread on the subject instead of writing about this in this guys thread if you are concerned about others possibly making a mistake like that in a state where it is illegal.

Nice job and nice deer. Sounds like that broadhead and arrow combination worked perfectly!
Nice Deer!! Congrats!!
