Today I took my 13 y.o. son, Jack, bowhunting for his first season. He shoots a compound, I shoot a recurve. Regardless we hunted within eye sight of eachother today.
We've turkey hunted before. But today was his first time hunting deer, in a tree stand and more or less on his own.
We saw the sunset. He had on owl land in his tree just feet away. We watched what must have been 1,000 + geese, ducks and sandhill cranes file into the wetlands behind our sit.
No deer were seen but the boy could not stop talking about his first deer hunt on the way home.
Make those moments happen dads, moms, uncles, aunts, grandparents! They'll last you both a lifetime.

Next weekend my Daughter and I go on our first bowhunt together. YEA!!!!! :archer:
Fantastic, good times.
That's simply awesome
I look forward to the first several weeks of our season. A transition takes place where the cranes move on (I hunt within a large marsh system) and the geese take over after about a week or two, depending upon the weather. When the cranes are in, they all return to the marsh from the fields in the hour leading up to dark and they are so noisy you can almost hear nothing else. They are amazing critters !
Glad to hear that he enjoyed his sit. Hope he enjoys many more.
