I have one tag left. Seeing movement a lot in mid-afternoon. Filled my first tag Wednesday at noon. Recurve on the ground.
Not going good. Opening day I parked my truck, shut off the lights, and had a flashlight getting closer and closer to my truck. Turns out that the local Game Warden who has many many areas in various towns decided to spend the night and park his truck right where I had to go in, and not far from my spot just in the woods from a fresh cut corn field. Hey, he was a nice guy though. Deer are not looking good in the area I hunt. not sure what's going on, but it took me 24 years to take my first VT deer last year which is real sad. Looks like this year will probably be fruitless also. To bad I had to give up my Ohio trip this year for the first time in 5 years. It's a bit depressing in VT
Dave, it was on Rich's land that I finally got my first deer. I am forever grateful to him for that opportunity. A memory I will never forget.
It's early yet Shane. Don't be giving up a;ready.
Rich caught a couple young ones sparring yesterday. I have still yet to see a deer.
Good to hear Dave.I will call later on.
This year is not going well, but it has it's good points.Just gotta have everything line up and make somethng happen.
Where's all the rest of the Green mountain crew on here?
I spent last Monday night in Rutland. Y'all live in a beautiful state. Have a great season guys!
I was feeling very positive about the start of the season (my first!), had been stumping/scouting at least a few days a week all along, had my spots picked out, loads of fresh signs. Good apple crop on the land, things looked good.
A week or so before the opener.. nothing. No tracks, no scat, nothing. Haven't seen a thing since. My wife pointed out the buds are gone, they've probably moved down to the farms. She's right. Well I've learned something, anyway. Hoping they'll move back up by late season; I always see tracks again when there's snow.
Guess they save the apples for later?
They were in the soy beans good until they browned up. A lot of corn still standing, a lot of nuts on the ground and plenty of apples in the trees. They pretty much have their pick of food right now. Getting colder this week so that might move them a bit more and hopefully more corn will come down.
One more week coming up now. Who's heading out for late season? Around here, looks like they're back up in the hills, which is what I've been hoping for.
I have one tag left of my three so I'll be out there.
Good luck to you guys.......maybe the late hunts will be productive for you.......and me...lol!
