My brother and I had our 2nd annual opening weekend selfbow hunt this past weekend. More of a time to just get together and enjoy God's great outdoors and time in the woods. We dubbed it a primitive only hunt, and that means on the ground hunting only. The weather was unseasonably warm and rainy Friday and Saturday evenings. We did manage to cook a nice meal outside my Tee Pee on the grill I bought on the ST. Jude auction from Bud B. The grill worked extremely well.

This is my version of a Tee Pee. Really more of Wig Wam than a TP. The base size is 20 ft. in diameter. It's constructed of 13 maple poles covered with chicken wire and then 15 weight felt paper. Being primarily in the shade, the felt paper holds up very well. This is it's third year with little effect or deteroration on the felt.

While the inside is still under construction, the field stone flooring and inner liner are not complete. Most of the floor is done and the first course of liner for the most part.

What Tee Pee would be complete without a wood stove? LOL

That's very neat!
Or a kitchen area such as it is?

Looks like a perfect weekend already! :campfire:
We weren't in hunting garb at the time, but i had to grab my snaky Osage bow for the pix.

The Tee Pee stands 25 ft tall and has clear plastic covering the top for a little light. Next year I plan on putting in a window for more sun light. Also comes complete with a door and lock if need be.

Don't mean to sound jealous but I am jealous .
Hard to tell by the pic, but the floor is flat stone set in and jointed with sifted dirt.

David that is an awesome camp. Thanks for taking all those photos and sharing them. Good luck this season... keep us posted on the progress :)
Daril and I hunted Sat. and Sun. I sent Daril to my favorite ground blind each day. Sat. evening he got a shot at a spike horn. With the spike at the outer limits of self bow range, the shot missed just over the back above the kill zone. Nice try Daril. He was using the hickory flat bow I made for him, with bamboo shafts and natural turkey feathers from one of my kills.

Always a family of Wood ducks on the pond! That is until you want to take their picture. Oh well, here's a look at our little half acre pond. The tee Pee sits about 30 yds. from the one end of it.

Really enjoyed the primitive hunt with my brother this last weekend. The rest of the season will find me setting up tree stands or hunting from one or the half dozen ground blinds spread across some 3,000 acres of state land as well as my own. The hunting clothes and gear are cleaned, and hanging in the fresh air ready to go. The Hill Cheetah has new cedars and I have a fresh start to a new Deer season. I live for this time of year and all I seek in it. May you all have a fantastic season........and God Bless.
