Hi All,
I am very lucky to have a great friend with a great ranch in central Texas. His place is covered up in game, it's where I got my first trad turkey last year.
On to the hunt, well I shot a big sow the first evening. The very next evening I had turkeys come in but I never had a good shot present itself.
The last evening of the hunt I had several bucks come by the stand. When my buck stepped out, here came the "buck fever". I was shaking so bad that I did not think that I would have a shot. I have been lucky enough to take some good archery deer over the last 30 years, but never with traditional gear. I had a second chance to recover from buck fever and I put the "Shark" in the boiler house.
Well here's the picture, the quiver in the picture is the St Jude's Auction quiver from our very own Bud. Thanks Bud for an awesome quiver my friend.

Yes sir, I'm lucky to have a friend like Mike. I don't mean just the hunting ranch either. Mike and I hunted together and shot archery together for the last 25 years, long before he had his own place. As far as that goes we have had great success at my place as well as leases throughout Texas. Last year we started using traditional equipment. Traditional is all we both shoot anymore, and we are hooked big time.
The shot on the buck was 12 yards quartering away, the buck expired on his feet but ran about 30 yards. The top of his ticker was completely wrecked. It all happened very fast after the shot :)
I finished my skull mount today and I thought that I would share with y'all. I am not certain about the plaque but it is what I have for now. A week later and I'm still like a kid at Christmas :)

Hey, buddy! Congrats on a great deer and I really like the mount! Great job! I didn't see this sooner, cuz I was busy getting skunked in the bear woods, but I'm glad I got to see it!
Awesome job on the deer and the mount.
I cant tell from the pic if you sealed it with a gloss sealer or if that shine is oil from the skull.
If the shine is oil from the skull i have a suggestion. If you soak the skull (not the antlers, but only the skull part) in water and dawn dish soap for aobut a week it will remove the oil from the skull. If the oil is not removed it will yellow and be shinny and wet for a very longtime. after you soak it in dawn for a week or so you can whiten it with either kills spray paint or 40 volume peroxide and a paint brush. then seal it with a thin coat of arcylic semi gloss or flat spray paint. the whitening is optional but if there is oil in the bone it will take years to leach out on its own.
That sure is a beautiful set of horns and I just want you to be able to enjoy it for many years to come. Again great job!

They were white after boiling with dish soap, then peroxide treatment. When I put the clear coat spray on and they turned a slight yellow, more so in the camera flash.

I figured it was probably just how the pic was taken.
