Title: unfinished limbs
Post by: dougedwards on October 04, 2013, 01:20:00 PM
To save a few bucks I ordered a set of limbs that are unfinished.  Are there any links or sites that might be able to grant me a little insight on the best way to finish the limbs off?

There should be some threads if you search for bow refinishing. It probably depends on how well you want them to match your riser and what it was finished with. You could low tech with wipe on poly on Tru-oil or even spray some spar urethane on them. On the more high tech side you could order commercial bow finish and apply with a spray gun. I don't usually have to finish new limbs - usually just refinishing old limbs but tru-oil has worked well as has spar urethane. You have to avoid some types of spray urethane because they can look milky or yellow. I'm sure there is some guys on here that can steer you away from those.

Tried to do a search on PowWow and came up with nothing.

By unfinished do you mean they are not shaped/drilled etc or they need finish?

They are shaped and drilled.  I am thinking that I would only need to just spray some urethane on them but also wanted to know if there were other options such as painting over the fiberglass and how that might look.  I see lots of info on the web for purchasing unfinished bows but not much on how to finish them.

Try searching  "The bowyers bench" & "Trad history/ collecting" fourms.
