That's pretty cool and why I usually have to force myself to sit still for another 5 or 10 minutes, until sunset.
My son and I put out a camera at my place. He was on his 4 wheeler, and I was walking around looking for likely stand locations. Within minutes of leaving the camera and while we were still within 200 yards of it, both of us talking over the sound of the motor. A basket rack buck came into view on the camera and stood watching us leave. The noise sure scared the heck out of him!
We use the 4 wheeler and my tractor around the place quite a bit. I see deer from both, and they don't seem particularly disturbed by either one. I've had does follow me around the field watching me on the ATV, often within 50-100 yards. I don't think they are alarmed as long as I am making noise. Predators don't do that.
This spring I was planting some trees when I heard a deer snort. I turned and there was a doe watching me from the hillside about 75 yards away. I just kept working, and she watched me for about 10 minutes before she calmly walked on up into the timber.
Now, if I was trying to sneak up on one, it would be gone in a flash. They seem to have the ability to judge a threat.
I have watched deer around my place and how they react to the dogs barking, even when the dogs are outside and less than 50 yards from the deer. The deer go about their business as usual, occasionally looking up at the dogs, but then going back to feeding. Apparently, since the dogs are staying in place, not getting closer, the deer are comfortable, but do keep tabs on the dogs. While mowing, I've had deer within 25 feet and they just watched me. They're used to farm equipment, so the noise doesn't seem to bother them.
