Guys I don't think my calling will ever be a writer for a outdoor magazine but I'll try and put Saturday morning in words that are somewhat interesting. It started about 6am as my brother and I headed for our stands on an amazing little spot we hunt in east texas. I was frustrated the moment I climbed in the stand to find I had not made it to the tree with my thermacell. I'm still afraid I may come down with west Nile yet! Anyhow, day broke and deer started to make their way down the trail that leads past my set. Several does and young bucks found and enjoyed my hand thrown corn then eventually moved on. My game cam had been showing this buck to be a regular for the past several weeks but he was running late I suppose. At nearly 9am I was beginning to believe it was going to be a dry run. Then a few does and a nice cull spike appeared. I had just decided to try and take the spike and I stood to ready myself for the shot. I took one more view of the surroundings and spotted the big 10 about 80 yards away. He was working a licking branch and at first showed no sign of coming my way. Then a little heaven sent luck, thanks again Lord, he started towards my set. I knew who he was and took my attention away from his beautiful rack gleaming from the sunshine. As he closed to 20 yards I knew I was gonna get a shot. He came on to 15 yards and offered a picture perfect quartering away shot. I came to anchor, glared a hole about center his body and dropped the string. I watched the GT disappear through him and he whirled outta there leaving my arrow laying coated in bright red on the ground. He went maybe 50 yards and tipped over with me watching in EXTREME excitement. My brother came over and we celebrated and took some pics. Even as I'm writing this now my heart rate is still irregular and my hands are shaking so pardon me if I misspelled anything. Thanks for all the kind words guys, and I wish you all a safe and successful season! God bless!
Congratulations! That sounds like an exciting hunt! Pictures?
