Well after 3 years of practicing and hunting some with the trad gear, I finally decided to go all traditional and get serious with it this year and
after a slow start to my season (broken jaw and fractured back just over 2 weeks ago) I was able to connect on a nice mature doe this evening.
Since my back is injured, I played it safe and only hung my LW about 10-12 ft off the ground about 100 yards behind the landowners house. I got settled in around 5pm and someone started cutting the grass quarter after 6. My initial thought was, "great, now my hunt has ended before it really started". But to my surprise, this mature doe trotted out of the bedding area with her young one. They were already in bow range at the time they came out and caught me off guard as I was expecting them to come from a different direction. There were a few limbs in the way so I waited patiently as my legs began to shake like no other.
They slowly made there way into my shooting lane around 12yds away browsing on acorns when I drew back my 45# '61 Kodiak and released the beman arrow tipped with a 4 blade muzzy phantom. I watched as the arrow sank in to her rib cage, she stumbled, and slowly walked off as I watched her bed down. I was freakin' pumped and kept trying to replay the shot when I realized I hit her a little far back than I wanted. I knew it was a far back but kept telling myself "dont worry, dont push her, giver her time and she will expire".
I got down, found blood at the place I shot her and noticed it was nice, red blood and that brougt some relief. I backed out, called my buddy, gave her 2 hours, and found her only 50 yards from the place I shot her. The shot was far back and hit guts, but I did manage to clip one lung and her liver.
I am so thankful to be given the opportunity to harvest such a nice doe and I am more than happy to finally give up the compound. Ive killed several with a compound, including a nice buckk, but this kill/hunt was by far the best and most memorable! Bjorn, there really is t much personal background behind my Kodiak. I actually picked it up from a guy off **** this year for $100 which included a stringer and 6 arrows so I got the bow for a steal. I love it, it's smooth and shoots where I'm looking. I plan on getting it restored before too long.
Btw, thank you everyone for the congratulations and thank you tradgang for everything you have done to help this fellow archer chase his dream.

congrats

Beautiful Doe and you have good taste in bows.Hard to beat the Classic Bear bows.

Well done buddy! Now a word of advice from an old guy. Stay the hell out of trees until you are healed. With your injuries even 4 ft. up is not playing it safe.
