I'm washing hunting clothes, printing tags and double checking my equipment this weekend. Broadheads are sharp, My bow is tuned to whitetail killin perfection, and I have Tuesday off!
You guys with your early seasons have been killing me. I'm going take you guys along with some pics this season and hopefully my ugly mug smiling with a freezer donor or two.
Good luck and stay safe guys and gals!
Rob
I'm hoping to hunt Indiana (near Attica) a week or two with my best friend this year. He is recovering from cancer.
Good luck to you!
Get after them Rob, will be back up in the home state second week of Nov. Looking forward to your pictures.
I have some time off coming. I will have to use it when sometime. Might as well start Tues.
Eric I didn't think you were allowed back across the river. :bigsmyl: Good luck this fall.
Nate
I am sooooo ready!
Thanks for the well wishes Rob! I will have the 1st week off so I hope to get out several times. I like your posts. Can wait to see how you do this year.
Everyone who gets out on Tues morning should meet back at this thread for updates on opening morning "success".
BTW, took my son out this morning, youth weekend here. Only saw a yote.
Good luck Rob and other Hoosiers! I was out back for some final broadband tuning and heard two shots from youth hunters (I assume). Hoping the buck I am hoping to have a crack at made it past all the whipper snappers! COME ON TUESDAY!!!
Good luck everyone! I know how you feel rob!
I took my son out this morning for youth hunting but didn't see anything but squirrels. I can't take any time off work during the week but I will be out all day next weekend. Good luck everyone.
Rob and All... Hunt hard (for both of us) hunt safe, and shoot straight, Good Luck !!
Won't get out til the end of the month. I do most of my hunting late season,anyway..
We're almost there!
It will be a successful hunt for me if I can just get out and set up as planned. Can't wait to be on stand and watch the sun come up and nature come to life.
I won't hunt tomorrow but I am itchin' for Friday evening and the weekend as my brother and I have a mini-camp in Morgan County.
Got out with the kids this weekend. Lainey and I struck out but James killed a doe Sunday morning. I sat in a great area with my ghillie and had 3 does within 10 feet of me :)
I was out where I wanted to be and when I wanted. I saw no deer but had a good morning anyway. I had no fresh sign under my stand that I was trying to stay away from to keep it cleaner.
I chose this stand because when my husband starts harvesting corn this will probably be the first field he does and I thought the deer would be less likely to show up without the security cover.
I won't be out tonight but I will tomorrow.
Anybody else have an update?
How do you guys handle fog?
Hunt? Don't hunt? Must hunt!?
I had 4 within bow range and couldn't seal the deal. Wind got me on the first 2 and the second 2 was a large doe with a fawn that busted at the sight of my pack. I had put it down to put the sneak on the first 2. I sat all the rest of the day and didn't see anything else.
I did find some good trees dropping so I hope for some action Saturday morning.
I plan to get out on Sat. morning also but it will be short. I would have to be out of the woods by 8 am. We are suppose to have some rain early in the morning. Hope it makes the deer move as it passes and they move by me.
I was out last night. Stood in the "Clump", four black walnut and one shagbark hickory growing from the same spot with enough room to draw my bow. Drew on a squirrel without getting caught. I should have shot.
Just texted my brother in Indiana about the bucks I have been seeing in the greenway(city limits) of San Antonio Texas. He is in the woods but nothing is moving this morning.
My son and I got out last weekend for youth season, we had three does come in to about 30 yards then drift away. We'll be back in there in the morning.
With the shift I am on, this afternoon will be my first time out. Warmer than I like, but am hoping the rain moving in will help me out. Good luck to all! Mike
Went this evening and had two bucks within twenty yards. Both 8 pointers. One real nice. I would have shot if he hadn't snuck in on me. Once I noticed him, his head was behind a hickory tree as he scanned the bean field at the fence line. Once he jumped the fence, I had a great look at his 130ish antlers. The second buck was quite a bit smaller.
Funny how these bucks can turn a man's legs into quivering hello!!!
Skychief was that a typo? Either way it's funny!
You got me! I have a Kindle that offers word as I type and it won't let me type j e l l o. Anybody know how to turn the silly word suggestions off of a Kindle?!?!!!

This stand has more activity in the mornings. But here is a little one that came in during daylight in the evening. It was still Sept. though.
I was at this stand last night. I saw an owl, heard a fox and a doe came along but stayed out in the middle of the bean field.
I changed the SD card and along with the pic above I got this guy. That's a little more like it!

He has a broken tine already on his right beam.
Treacherous Mariah!I did my work. Checked the 'puter for wind direction, chose my ground blind by that.I got out early, first hunt in two years. About 6:00 a squirrel busted me and barked for 20 minutes or so. When it came down the side of the tree I launched a hex head at it. A little high or it would have been my first trad kill. 15 minutes after sunset, right where they were supposed to come out, mamma deer busted me. The NW wind had switched to a south by southeast about 7:15 or so, and I paid for it :( There's always tomorrow.
Keep at 'em achigan!
Skychief got one! Haven't seen a pic yet.
First evening out was yesterday. I had 2 fawns, 2 larger does, a 4 point, and a medium 8 point walk within 40 yards. They came in about 6:30pm. No shot ever developed, but it was nice to be in the woods and see deer. They slowly fed the other direction and out of sight.
What is everyone else seeing in the Hoosier woods?
Still haven't been out. Family obligations getting in the way. Trying hard for tomorrow evening. Hope it cools down some.
I got out Wednesday morning. Deer were moving all morning. Saw 5 different small bucks and 3 does. Also saw 8 turkeys. Got caught drawing on one of them. Fun morning though. Can't wait till tomorrow morning.
