I'm short on dough and looking for my first traditional bow. Has anyone here had an opportunity to shoot this bow? Is it smooth, fast, etc? Thanks in advance.
Not a bad bow for the price. The grip is a bit blocky but the bow is a fine smooth shooter. I wish I still had mine.
You can usually find them used at good prices. They pull smooth, are very quiet but are on the slow side of fast. I also had to rework my grip to get the feel I wanted.
I have been shooting mine now for five years and it seems to shoot just fine for me.quiet and smooth(I guess its the only longbow ive ever owned)hopefully I get to draw blood this year with it. good luck. Tracy.
It's a fine bow for the money. You could do much worse paying more...Van
the grip on the newer ones is fine. I've got one and I love it. Ive done some stuff to mine. I chopped the limb tips real short and took off the leather grip wrap cuz I dont like leather grips.
I shoot it just about every day and I definitely cant say anything bad about it. Its not a speed demon but I get PLENTY of kinetic energy from my 31" powerstroke so ive never had to worry about speed!
Thats another thing: it draws smooth for as far as you can draw it, even if your a lanky 76-incher like me!
The thing I like most about it is that I can beat it around and I know it wont fail. I think thats why I can never own a bow over $400. I would feel bad about shooting it in the rain, gettin it muddy, not stringing it with a stringer, pushing through brush with it...all the things I do with my montana!
If you like the idea of a of a rugged, ugly, no BS bow that will always get the job done you wont be dissatisfied with a montana.
I like mine
Excellent value, and a real sleeper, IMO. I understand that they have fixed the blocky grip since I had mine. Go for it, I don't think you'll regret it.
It is a fine bow. You could go a lifetime with that bow and be perfectly happy.
i love mine. i used to shoot a 52 inch recurve. the 64 inch length of the montana makes it a lot easier to shoot. it took me a while to get used to the straight grip, but now it feels natural.
i'll be carrying mine next saturday.
I bought a used one from a Tradganger and he had reshaped the grip and it was a fine bow for the price.
I passed it on to a friend's Son but I would not be against having another for myself one day.
