nice. . . thank you for that. Do you have videos available for the other things you showed (hammock, other tent configurations )?
How about other sorts of neat things to know ?
ChuckC
Well done!
great video.
I didnt knw you could do that with a tarp. i have used traps before but never like that. Good option to know and i will be trying it.
Thanks for sharing.
Very well done. Thanks
excellent job !
Thats about as cool as it gets. Ive got a bug to leave behind the hot tubs and restaurant meal hunts Im accustomed to and get back in the boonies. Knowledge like this is priceless.
Good stuff.
Good job on the video. Can you give us some details on the tarp that you are using. I was just looking into getting a canvas tarp today.
With tarp tents and no floor, how to they perform in the rain?
This might be a silly question, but where do get a tarp lke that?
ChuckC, we'll have some new stuff coming out soon. I think we'll try for one new subject per month.
ALwoodsman, this tarp is 9X10 but it's a little on the small side. I'm going to make up another that's 10X12. That should be plenty of room for one guy and some gear. Two folks could share if you want to get cozy..
recurvericky, I just got back from an elk hunt in north Idaho where it rained all of one night. it does fine in the rain so long as you're set up in a spot where water doesn't pool.
Thanks for the comments guys, and don't forget to give it a like. It helps push it to the top of the search engins. ch
Gotta love a good tarp. Nice job.
thanks for sharing
Excellent!!
Thank you, nice job.
That is very helpful info Clay. Thanks.
Outstanding. Thanks for the info. :clapper:
Nice video thanks for sharing. How much does the tarp weigh?
Nice video. I've done the diamond shelter when my son and I used to canoe camp. We used a nylon tarp for weight. Great for mild weather but we added a light two man tent for wet weather and used the tarp for a dining fly.
Nice set up. I've got a couple of 10' X 12' and a 12' X 15' that I use canoe camping. They are 4.25 oz. and 200 thread count. When they get wet, the weave tightens up so much it sounds like a piece of sheet metal when you shake it out. Stays perfectly dry on the inside.
That's great! But the mosquitoes here would never allow me to try that.
Nice instructional, thanks
Rusty
2nocks, a canvas tarp will weigh a few pounds so it's not for backpacking. I've got another made form silicon treated polyester that weighs next to nothing.
Kook68, You can close this thing up so the little sobs can't get in. But, then you may roast if it's warm enough for the skeeters to be out. I've used mine a lot in Mississippi.
  :clapper:
Where is the best place to purchase polyester tarps?
I just got a few yards form the fabric store.
Really Great! Thanks ,
God bless, Steve
Very cool video, thanks for the info.
Very good video! ........Any more? Thanx,....Lloyd
Very well done, and one of the most important points you made is ..... practice these skills "before " you go out into the back country.
You ever take all the "stuff" you put in your pack and actually use it in the field ? I take inventory from time to time on my first aid kit, fire starters, flash lights, ect ect just to be sure they all work if I REALLY need them.
Be safe out there ....
Enjoyed that! Always good to have extra knowledge, just in case.

Clay, is your tarp rigged up for a stove set-up, like a kifaru stove?
It looks like in your video the tarp has a 4 inch round hole for a stove pipe?
Day Dreamer, Mine's not set up like that, but it'd be easy to sew that into a canvas tarp. Another option I sometimes use is a stove made by stuffing a role of tissue paper into a small metal coffee can, then pour a bottle of alcahol over the top. It'll soak up the whole thing. You can light that up and it'll burn with a nice little blue flame inside the tent to warm things up in the morning. Put the plastic lid on the can after use to keep the alcahol from evaporating.
There will be more vids out soon. I think we'll be shooting for one a month.
elkken, that's so true. things can really go haywire when you think you know something but have never tried it.
I tried a couple set-ups, but this is as easy as it gets. Thanks
Thanks for the good lesson.
Excellent video Clay. I hit the like button and subscribed to your YouTube channel. Thanks.
Nice video!
Not that I have....yet..
Been thinkin about a king size, flat sheet, high thread count, and some 'camp dry' tent waterproofing spray..
It'll require some sewing ..but, would/should make a very lightweight, packable, shelter.
Another sheet or pillow case, could supply material for stake and edge ties or reinforcements.
Someone ask about rain..my thoughts;
If, you are under a dry roof....
- at the back of your shelter: usually the high side
- starting in the middle (with a stick,stone..??) carve a "U" shape in the ground; around to about two feet in front...2-6 inches deep, give or take
- with your shelter and you inside the upside down "U" the ditch will help divert ground water and shelter run-off..
Hope that makes some sense to one who needs it..
Billy, you might look into ripstop nylon or polyester for a lightweight tarp. Mine is polyester with silicon treatment. Works great and weighs just a few ounces.
TxAg, I made mine, but there's a fellow in WA state that sells tarps special made for this set up. If you google northwest woodsman, or woodsman tarp, you'd find him.
Thanks for all the great feedback guys. We'll have another up in a few weeks.

Hmmm I've actually been subscribed to you on YouTube for awhile and was looking through your vids today and saw I hadn't watched this one yet. Then I get on TG and there you are! Haha great video! Thanks!
Clay,
Nice job on the video! And how to use that tarp, i like that simple set up!
I bought a nice tarp for when I took my son to the BWCA but we used it as a cover and not for sleeping and knowing different ways to rig them and also knots are so handy. For those looking for nice light weight tarps take a look at Kondos outdoors or custom Cooke sewing.
If packing it in look at either silnylon or if you want the ultimate in lite weight cuben material. For long treks I use trekking poles so I sty my shelter up with those instead of cutting poles. Los of good info at backpackinglight.com
Nice video . I haven't used my canvass tarps for along time. I've made lean to,s but this is much better. Thanks.
Clay,
Very nice job! Tarps are a great way to go.
A minor thing...you may want to double check your spelling on the video. Anglers is "Anlers"
I look forward to seeing more of your quality videos.
Bob
Canadian Idle, I just uploaded the second in the series and posted it on PowWow. It's on fire building.
