Its going to be a warm Morning down there today, Thunder storms may move in around 10.
As the day Progresses the chance fopr T storms and showers lessens.
Tonight will be 50 degrees with star filled skies, and tomorrow morning, no need to use a flashlight as stars will illuminate your foot falls. There will be deer seen and Cardiac encounters to be had ;)
Hey Kenny! What's the acorn situation this year?
Charlie J - that is a pretty good prediction!
It rained at 10, bro and I got the last stand put up at 10:30, quite wet, but should wash away any scent..
Off myself and the stands ! LOL
Charlie L - Acorns are not too plentiful, very dry this summer. Some trees have some, some not so much. They are dropping a bit, and deer are vacuuming them up as fast as they fall.
The milo on the S lease should turn into a deer magnet soon!
Kenny,
Tomorrow Morning will produce deer movement, I hope the guys get a shot! It will be a perfect morning to be in the stand.
So far we are having a fantastic hunt! I came very close to closing the deal on a fat doe tonight...10 yard gimme shot off the ground... her yearling came thru my opening...but mama was smart and stayed back.... she started to get a tad uneasy...i had walked thru the same area 10 minutes before they showed and she was catching some scent..... i was at full draw waiting for her to take a few more steps and she turned around and stiffed legged out of there ..her yearling followed close behind.....She never knew where i was..my leafy suite worked well and blended into the brush pile where i was holed up .... There are unlimited spots to ground hunt on these farms and Kenny has been more than accomodating...We've spotted a whopper buck on the neigboring property and im hoping to see him pass thru shortly.... So far we are having a blast, relaxing , hunting , and just chatting with Kenny.......to add to the deer sightings we've seen turkey, quail, lots of squirrels, and a wise old owl... the coyotes have been sounding off at dark.
The acorns are real spotty.... there have been a few that have dropped and are getting ate up fairly quickly...We've come across a few whiteoaks that are loaded with acorns but have yet to drop...these trees will be deer magnets in the next couple weeks..... From what I can tell the deer are still eating in the soy beans....some have turned yellow...but the deer still seem to be feeding in them..... It rained quite abit today and cooled things off.... nice and clear tonight and should be a fantastic morning hunt tomorrow..... we will keep u all updated...!!
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire:
That's what I'm talking about
Lets get this TTT :D
The old observation stand. Well I sat one tonight, been hunting for acorns the last couple of days and we're starting to find the big mature tree's aren't producing very well. No doubt a result of the near drought conditions this year. Under Kenny's advice I headed for a ladder stand in a big Pin Oak that straddled a travel corridor between two Milo fields on the South Farm. After getting settled in the evening hunt commenced. The stand faces north and is well concealed with large branches drooping down from it to the east and the travel corridor running east to west directly in front of the stand. From this perch you can see into the east and west fields which are planted in Milo. The wind was perfect coming out of the east so I would go undetected to anything but keen eyes in the wide open shooting lane. Within minutes a large doe appeared to the east about 40 yards away but her direction of travel had her crossing to the other side. As she disappeared behind the trees and into the east field I caught the movement of another deer that came out of the same location as the doe. It was a very respectable eight point and his direction of travel was taking him in the same direction as the doe. As he nearly disappeared, he stopped, turned and with the wind at his back started to head west directly in front of me. I locked in on him and made the decision he was a shooter and if he gave me a shot I'd take it. Slowly he closed the distance and at ten yards broadside directly in front of me I leaned forward and slowly started to draw. That's when it got real interesting. While I was burning a hole through my intended victim I didn't notice his three wingmen 15 yards to my right, but they noticed me. I was startled as I almost reach full draw by a loud snort by one of his unseen partners, definitely not conducive to good form or concentration! The string slipped from my fingers and the arrow was on its way. As close a miss as I've ever had as the arrow sailed just south of the bucks armpit by a fraction of an inch, followed by four bucks wanting to get out fast but not knowing where to go or how. It was almost comical watching them scamper around in close quarters trying to figure out what just happened but not sure what to do! No animals were harmed with the release of this arrow!

Lots of fun guys! Keep after em. :campfire: :archer:
Charlie J, that's right. I asked Charlie Lamb if he had any advise prior to heading out here. His answer "for starters I'd listen to Kenny". Darn good advise for sure, you're going to love this place

I am sure of that Michael.
How's the week progressing?
You guys need to stop hunting and talk to us!! LOL
Oh yeah! Save me a nice fat doe to shoot.
Launched an arrow at 6:55am. Going to have to give this one a few hours to take up the trail.

Congrats Mike, thanks for givin the sneak peak. I have my sources lol.
Charlie, I think I may have bear hunted with your "source". I'll get on with this, trying to do it off an IPhone is tough.
Yesterday we had a "Grand Plan" to hit the woods early. Steve was hunting the soybeans and I was going to be "Milo Mike" as Steve calls me. Our plan was to have us in the woods well before daylight. After my escapade in the Milo Sunday night with the "four amigo's" I was anxious for another crack at them. I'm an early riser so it was my job to wake up Steve so we could get at it. 4:30am everyday to go to the job without an alarm clock no problem.
:dunno:
Legal shooting hours start around 6:30am in this neck of the woods so you can imagine my horror when I rolled over and saw bright light pouring through the cabin windows.
:knothead:
So we cooked up plan B, use an alarm clock!
The morning hunt was a bust so we spent the majority of day shooting bows, and just plain old relaxing. It seems like my entire life is a race lately and it's so refreshing to relax in good company without regards to time and slow down. This hunting thing is supposed to be fun, not work.
:dunno:
Monday night found me back at the Milo stand. Saw a few does and a little forkhorn. Seeing the forkhorn was a good thing, we weren't sure if the Milo was ready for the deer to munch on yet but after watching the little guy through my binoc's cover 40 yards in 30 minutes nibbling away the entire time told us they're starting to hit the Milo.

OK enough with the bloody arrow teasing and get to the story. :D :D :D :campfire:
This morning we were ready, the alarm clock on an iPhone really works! By 6:15am I'm back in the stand ready for what the day has to offer. It was warm, 61 degrees with a forecast of a high of 85. Not the hunting us northern boys are used to. The wind wasn't the best for the stand set but from the previous days observations it was somewhat doable. Evening deer moving west, so in the morning they should be moving back east to the bedding area.
Just after first light I see a dark motionless shadow to the west next to a large cedar at the end of a tree line about 60 yards away. In the faint morning light it's still identifiable as a buck. He stands motionless at his post, looking and checking the slight breeze before he decides to commit and make the 50 yard crossing through the Milo to the safety of the opposite tree line. He stood at the cedar not moving for 10 minute with an occasional flick of his tail being the only movement to give him away. He was at the cedar in the left center of this pic.
Not trying to drag this out but I'm down to 6% and my phone is about ready to die. Need to plug in for awhile and I'll continue.
Once he made his move I made mine, I stood and readied if he were to follow the tree line and round the corner for what could be a 12 yard broadside shot. Or he could hit the tree line and turn north or just cut through the finger of timber to emerge into the east field. The later two options were not good for me so I was hoping for option one. Then I could see legs moving through the trees in my direction. He chose option one!
As he reached the corner he stopped, and stared what seemed to be directly at me from 15 yards away for at least 5 minutes. I stood motionless, bow arm set, tension on the string, ready for his next move. I was surprised to find out how your knee's can start knocking together when you try to hold that stance for too long! Then he made his move and turned the corner, in five steps he would give me that 12 yard broadside shot.
Kudos to mike for the in field updates
I don't know what is tougher traditional bowhnting or typing a story on an iPhone
:saywhat:

Yes sir!
Great recap of the hunt so far.
What the heck? You went to bed without finishing the story?? You've got people on pins and needles here :readit:
I'm ready for the rest :coffee: :D
Thats OK Mike, u can take your time with the story!!! :bigsmyl: I'm in no rush
:coffee:
OK I'll finish it from my perch in a big old Hickory. My current view.
He made his turn and slowly took the last few steps to put him broadside and directly in front of me at 12 yards. He stopped, I picked my spot, drew and released. The arrow struck him solidly in the ribs and he bolted. As he ran I could see a small spot where he had a patch of hair missing where the arrow had entered. A good hit, appeared to be back of the lungs, if not liver for sure. He sprinted to the east down the center of the Milo field with his tail high. After a 200 yard dash I lost sight of him in the Milo.
A overhead view of the stand location. Everything that's not trees is planted in Milo.
I know that location well. Keep it coming.
As he ran I paid VERY special attention to his path of flight. Experience has taught me, when hunting from treestands, you really have to pay attention to the details. When you get your feet on the ground everything looks different. I marking the spot in my memory where I last saw him. There were a couple of small darker patch's in the Milo field and my last visual of him had him in or near the second one over 200 yards out.
I had to decide if I should stay in the tree and continue to wait for a doe since it was so early in the morning or if I should quietly climb down and retrieve my arrow, find first blood and slip out. I chose the second option. After about 10 minutes I lowered my gear to the ground and went to the point of impact to find my arrow. No arrow. :dunno:
I followed the direction of his sprint into the Milo and a couple of feet in I found it. What I saw was alarming, the arrow shaft was clean as a whistle with no blood on the shaft and blood on the fletching only with what appeared to be ground up grain stuck in the feathers. A sniff indicated a stomach hit. I was horrified to say the least. Based on the flight of the arrow and the wound I saw on the bucks side as he fled it was what I thought was a perfect hit. But we have to listen to what the arrow tells us and I had to deal with it. I immediately decided to wait at least 5 or 6 hours before taking up the trail.
I went about 10 yards into the Milo to see if I could find first blood. What I found was watery and some of it had more of the finely ground grain in it. More of what I didn't want to see. :(
After 5 hours Steve and I are back to start the tracking job, and we knew it was going to be a tough one. The temp was 80 and climbing. We started following first blood into the field and as we went in about 50 yards it appeared to get a little thicker and darker. We could find no blood on the ground, only smeared on Milo stalks and leaves, but not a heavy blood trail, very spotty at best. At about that point we lost blood completely.
We made the decision to jump ahead a couple of hundred yards to the second small dark patch of Milo where I had my last visual of the buck from the tree. It proved to be a good one because we found blood right away in that location. Then we found this, sure doesn't look like a stomach hit here
Looked like he just stood and bled, didn't bed down at all. With that much blood you would think his next move would be easy to follow, smearing blood in the Milo as he left the area. Wrong, nothing. We started searching the area for blood or any sign of him, or maybe he was lying near us dead? Nothing.
About 100 yards further there was a brush pile in the field. Steve was searching around it and called me over. He could see I was heading in his direction at a fast pace thinking maybe he'd found him, so he said he'd just found more blood. It was definitely a bed that he'd spent some time in. Matted down with a softball size smear of blood in it. Back to looking to try to find something, we'd already covered well over 400 yards.
We continued on searching the edges with no sign of blood or the buck. About 75 yards from the last blood Steve was checking a thick tangle of stuff near a ditch and he jumped a lone deer out of a bed. He burrowed into the thorny patch, thinking he may have bumped him, looking for another possible bloody bed. Nothing. As Steve was working his way out of the tangle, he looked over and there lay a dead buck! Found him!!!!
A nice big bodied 7 point.

Way to persevere.... Great Team effort all the way..
:notworthy: :notworthy:
You can clearly see the entrance wound in the picture. A quick autopsy in the field revealed the 150 gr two blade Magnus Stinger had sliced through the back of one lung, through the liver and through the esophagus where it enters the stomach, wiping the arrow clean and depositing the ground up grain. We would have not found this guy without Steve's hard work, perseverance on our part and a little luck. Paying special attention after the shot also was key. A Bowbolt 56" Gregg Coffey Lil Favorite, 50@30 with a 150 gr two blade Magnus Stinger tipped 5575 Goldtip got the job done.
OUTSTANDING!!!! What a great story!
Congratulations!!
God Bless
Rodd
Waiting for a New story on this great hunt... I'll bet later tonight there will be more coming....
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
That's awesome Mike!!! Beautiful buck, congrats!!! Did you say that you took your Quebec bear with the same bow?
Shot placement looks good like you say but weird things can happen, glad you found him! Can't wait to get there in a couple weeks to hunt. There is 4 of us going and I will do my part to keep this thread going during our time there. Good luck on the rest of your hunt!!.........Henry
Yup Sean, the Lil Favorite is a Lil Favorite for sure. Best shooting short recurve I've found. Gregg now builds the exact same bow as the Helms Deep.
Way to stick with it. Congratulations.
Congrats Mike!!
Mike,
Great story and some great tips to pickup and gleam from it
And a fine buck also!
Very good story, and a happy ending. Way to stick with it.
Congrats on a tough recovery that you didn't give up. We all have heard too many, "looked but couldn't find him" stories, with all sorts of weapons where that level of persistence was not present!
Tip of the hat to you all for keeping at it and making the recovery!
Hope with that heat the meat was ok!
Way to hang in there!! CONGRATS
Congratulations on finding your buck! We know the hopeless feeling one gets when finding an arrow that's not bright red. Way to stick with it!

This will be one where the recovery is a big part of the whole deal...or "ordeal" as it were.
We all know what it means when we can SEE them still running at 200 yards.
A job well done! :campfire:
Terry, You and Lucky have a second Date!
Yesterday was HOT and slow. Rained out this morning but getting ready to head out for the evening hunt right now. Kenny in an unbelievable host and this sure is mighty fine country.

Good Luck guys, the hot weather is headed this way!
Well our week in this little part of heaven on earth is coming to a close. What a great place and Kenny is awesome. Getting ready to go pick up Steve from his last hunt. He had a close encounter last night on the ground with the "four amigos" and I'm anxious to see how he's done. We'll keep you posted.

Hunted my last hunt tonight at Kennys.... what a fantastic trip! I can't say enough about Kenny...the whole hunt was great. The weather was warm causing the deer to move late and earlier in the morning. We saw several large bucks..I watched 2 nice ones sparring one night and 4 big ones another night. There are plenty of animals to be had. I did not connect this hunt...its going to be great for the folks coming in this fall! Thank you Kenny and thanks Mike for being a great hunting partner

The best thing I brought back from Missouri besides memories to last a lifetime and a load of tasty venison. A sweet piece of Cocobolo courtesy of Kenny that's going to John McCullough. Still trying to decide what he's going to turn it into but it will be one beautiful bow! Thanks Kenny.

Well, just received clearance from World Headquarters, that would be Sweet Wife. With another buck tag in my pocket we'll be back the first week in January for round two. More to follow but first there's alot of hunting and reporting to be done by fellow Trag Gangers over the next couple of months. Can't wait for their tales, I'm sure they'll be good.

Oh I could use a chunk of wood like that. Nice.
Great thread, looks like a wonderful hunt. Congrats on your buck and thanks for the story... :clapper:
Mike,
I know how this conversation went at home:
"Honey, I forgot to get the Lams to go with My Cocobolo for my new Bow", It may take a whole week to decide on the Veneers".. :scared:  Good Luck
he should of said ..Honey I forgot 3 bows in Missouri and have to return to pick them up...lol.....It will take me 7 days :)
:bigsmyl:
Just arrived at the cabin in MO. I will try and keep you all posted how are hunt goes here at the lease. Three of us drove in from MN today and my brother will be arriving from TX later this afternoon. Myself (Henry) my friend and business partner (Chris) our mentor (Mike) and my younger brother (Andy) will all be hunting this week and hope to fill a couple tags.
Good luck Henry!
If its still hot....they will be bedding on the north side of the wood edges in the tall grass....plenty of shade and 20 degrees cooler......
Be careful stepping out of the shower in the cabin....the floor is like ice with a little moisture on it....don't ask how I know :biglaugh: Lets just say I forgot to wear my harness...
Good luck and don't second guess Kenny...he knows his stuff!
Henry you must not gotten my pm i was the guy you passed with a climber on my back and rer
Steve i gotta get that picture out of my head :scared: :scared:
Best of luck guys. Looking forward to the reports :campfire:
Mitch, sorry I missed you! lol
Thanks for all the good luck wishes they worked!! Deer hanging in the big oak already..... I will get some pics up later but quick story first. Headed to the south farm to the "observation" ladder stand. I got settled in by 5:30 and just had that feeling! That stand just seems to be in the right spot! Anyway I was enjoying the evening with a few turkeys spotted and some deer moving. About 6:15 or so I hear movement behind me and peek over my shoulder to see a doe sneeking in to grab some milo. She takes her time getting in front of me but is finally broadside at less than ten yards and I pick my spot shoot and watch her go down. Shot her with my Bob Lee Hunter which is 54" and 51# with a 1920 Easton tipped with a 145 grain snuffer. The shot entered high behind her shoulder and got one lung center punched her heart and broke the offside shoulder and put her down quick. Very excited to get one on the first night!!..........Henry
Henry waaayyy to go
I know why your the Hammer
Maybe when your back i can hunt with you and you can put me in the quick shot spot :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:

Here is a picture of the doe I harvested yesterday. Will keep you guys posted as the week goes on. I think it's going to be good week!!.......Henry
Well done Henry!!!!!
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Henry made a super shot on the doe. He said she blew past an 8 point when she ran, he hadn't noticed the buck because he was so locked on the doe!
They are hanging some stands now, I expect to see some blood tonite!
The farmer started cutting milo this AM, so if they hunt the back at the gap or there abouts, the combine may cause the deer to ease that direction around hunt time!
Awesome congrats!!!!!
That Gap stand is a proven producer of venison for some reason!!
I gotta go check on the guys, I have a feeling..... :D
:campfire: :campfire:
Well?...

Great read! Thanks for the reports, guys.
Our times almost here Tom!
Not tonite, my feelin was wrong, just like when I have one on which stand to go to!! LOL
Congrats Henry! Thats a Great Doe and a Great shot!
Man this is a great thread... Thx to all for updates! If I had more time off I definitely would sign up for a hunt.
Another success story from this morning...... Our first morning we got to sit was today as we arrived on Saturday and slept in yesterday morning. We got stands set yesterday so we had spots to sit this morning. Chris and Mike were on the north farm this morning and had deer on the beans at first light. Chris had a young buck working the edge of the ditch and ended up 10 yards from him. He shot him with his Martin Savannah and a cedar shaft tipped with a Bear broadhead. The shot was just at the back of the ribcage so we gave him a few hours. Ended up that he got the liver and he was down in less than 200 yards.

That's a big tree!!!!
Oh and nice buck!
:clapper:

Excellent call giving him a bit of time! These guys are good hunters.

Quick story about this morning.....Another less than ten yard shot was taken.....But we did not hang a deer on the big oak this time.. :( ... So yesterday morning after our sit brother Andy had a feeling about this pond I had pointed out to him the day before. We walked down to it and there was a perfect spot, which is now called the "rabbit hole". Just a perfect natural ground blind for a north or west wind so we trimmed a couple shooting lanes and got out of there. After getting a little rain last night and the wind blowing out of the west he knew exactly where he was headed this morning. He got settled in and had a show of raccoons playing in the water at dim light when he heard a deer cough and got ready. The buck walked in stopping perfect in the shooting lane, but the shot was rushed and impacted low and to far forward. As best as we can tell he hit low in the brisket. Feathers were clean except 3 or 4 gray hairs on 2 of them. We picked up blood after 25 or 30 yards and he walked over 200 yards with just drops of blood till he clotted up. He jumped 2 ravines in the process and never stopped or laid down once and he was not pushed. We had waited over 3 hours before we looked. Anyway tough day for all of us when something like that happens, so a lot of us know how he is feeling today. We have had a lot of other close encounters as well and it's just a matter of time. P.S. Kenny is a great host and has a heck of a good thing going here!!
:campfire: :campfire: :campfire:
LOOKS LIKE GOOD NEWS!!! :clapper:
:campfire:
Sorry about the lost deer, but it can happen.
Brother Andy redeems himself this morning.....(sort of)......
So today we wake up to a WNW wind and Andy says he is going back to the "rabbit hole". He gets settled in vowing to take his time and make his shot count if presented with one today. Right on cue around 7:00 a buck walks into the pond but it is still to dark to pick a spot so he is patient as the buck mills around making a scrape and rubbing on branches less than ten yards away. The buck then turns around and leaves and comes back in a few minutes later. His raccoon friends from yesterday also return and one decides to visit the foot of his blind making Andy a little nervous. The other 3 coons go to the water making the deer nervous, so everybody ends up a little tense as the shot presents itself. Andy makes his shot with a complete pass through and can see his bloody arrow laying near the water. Around 9 I arrive to find a very bloody but stinky arrow. Not what he wanted to hear and said he was done for the week if he couldn't make a killing shot that close. I assured him we would find this deer but it would take some time. So we backed out and took care of some other things to pass the time......Henry
Andy must be playing around by the little pond just east of the tractor, sweet spot. More please!
:campfire:
About 12:30 we decide to head out to find "his"buck, Andy's confidence is in the gutter at this point. We shot a few targets this morning and he was right on, but as we all know when a deer is close our nerves are tested. Anyway we have decent blood to follow and continue on the trail for a couple hundred yards. At one point he actually crossed the blood trail from yesterday and got into some pines. Try finding a drip of blood in pine needles and dirt, but we got it unraveled. We were getting into some thick stuff and I look up and see the buck in his bed less than twenty yards away. Head up looking at me but not trying to get up to leave, so another arrow on its way sends him up the hill to another bed. We leave him for a bit and sneek in with a finishing shot. Crazy story I know but in the end we recovered his deer and Andy feels much better as do all of us. Andy is shooting a Bob Lee 62" 48# recurve and cedar arrows tipped with Zephyr two blade BH's.

Yes Mike that is exactly where he is at! Pretty neat buck he got with a broken left side that hangs down along his face and velvet still hanging on the bottom like a drop tine. This will be Andy's only opportunity to hunt all year since he moved to TX and doesn't get to hunt with me back home anymore. Super excited for him and proud of him for sticking with it through the ups and downs!! Henry
Cool buck Andy!! :bigsmyl:
Way to stick with him guys!
Way to go guys big congratulations
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Great thread thanks for keeping it going
Awesome!!!!
Great job, gives a whole new meaning to a "droptine buck"! Way to follow up and stick with it.
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
What a great hunt.
:archer2:
Congrats Andy! That is one Cool Buck.
Michael, Thanks for the warning. I will be spraying my clothes with extra Permithryn.
A couple of dz. Chigger bites isn't even worth mentioning. Wait until you have em from your neck down to your toes were every bite is touching the one beside it. You scratch em in your sleep til they bleed!!!
Great job on the Deer hunting everyone!!
bretto
Hopefully there done when Charlie gets there
Great Hunt!
Mike and Steve didn't get all the chiggers! :biglaugh:
those bites only get worse before they heal !!!!!
Don't worry Steve, they won't make it past New Years Eve... :readit:
Last evening hunt here at Kenny's as we are going to sit tomorrow morning and then be headed home after noon. Hopefully I will have another success story before we go. The weather has been great and we have had a really good time. Here are a few pics that I took yesterday and today in an area I found and seemed to like. This is a large scrape that you can smell from several yards and should be watched in the future.

This was interesting as there was 2 coons who wanted my tree (http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq157/HenryHammer/3B3C43AB-86BF-4A4F-A938-5DE9F3D027E6-6010-00000559953BAC08_zps8bbb9537.jpg)
it's Hammertime :saywhat: :saywhat:
Great pictures
Good Luck Guys. That Scrape looks pretty hot!
I would hope the chiggars are held at bay before I get there but I am not counting on it. we still have mosquitoes here.
Charlie, chiggers should be gone, sposed to be below freezing a couple times this week!
Good News Kenny! I have never had a chiggar bite and do not wish to start.
I hear them things get through your skin and eat you from the inside out :readit: Not sure how trustworthy the source was though  ;) :p
Congrats on some fine deer!
This is the tree I chose for my last evening sit, it is a huge Osage that I found off an old logging road. The first afternoon I walked into this spot I noticed that scrape and hung a stand nearby in a oak and got caught moving at the wrong time by 2 bucks. So I took the stand down and moved to this Osage but they never showed up this time, that's how it goes when your hunting these critters. Had a great time here in MO and the deer densities are really good. We saw more bucks in this weeks time than I see in a whole year back home.

I love that tree! You should be well hidden there!
These guys have been a blast to talk to evenings, as were Mike and Steve!!
Man I need to get to Kenny's Place!!
Overcast and drizzly tonite, so I didn't hunt. I hunt my bro's place til all the guys get done here on lease anyway. Except might sit it in during gun with my bow while bro has family gun hunting.
So I drove around the gravel roads by the lease, saw 25, 6 were def bucks , 1 was a really good 10 crossing onto the N lease from the west. Guessin 145+, good deer for N MO! :D
Just going through some of my pictures and zoomed in on this young buck that I thought only had a half rack. You can see his club hanging down on the left side. Pretty neat as I was giving Kenny a hard time for rubbing off on me with his small buck attractant. I only saw a half rack and let him keep on walking, two days later brother Andy got to shoot this buck. Probably hard to see in the picture but if you can zoom in you can see the dried black velvet.

How do you like those muddy sticks and hang on stand?
Brad, I sent you a P.M. about the stand and sticks.
Good luck Charlie!! Keep us posted and enjoy your time there. The deer population is really good especially the bucks...;-) I saw more bucks that week than does and I only hunted the south lease, the north is just as good. If Kenny tells you to go check out a spot, do it!! He will point you in the right direction. Henry
The next group is trickling in, may have a hunter or 2 on stand this eve.
Cooler weather and shorter days are gonna make things get interesting soon!!
Right now, I have an appointment with a good SW wind stand!! :D
I've got a cold beverage waiting for end of the hunt tonite
:campfire: :campfire:
Did Charlie retrieve his buck yet?...
They must be butchering a deer Mitch :D
How's my hunting buddy cyclic-rivers doing out there.......??
I hear "Deer Camp" is full of suprizes..... ;)
They have seen bucks, does, turkeys, and bobcats( yes, plural), no shots I don't believe. Charlie Lamb is gonna be a buck magnet I bet! :goldtooth:
Great thread...Congrats  to all on their successful hunts.
:campfire: :coffee:
:campfire: :coffee:
Hey Guys-great thread and really enjoy the pics & stories! I hope to head there myself someday! Thanks and good luck to all!
Kenny :bigsmyl:
Not like Charlie j not To be texting updates from the tree, bet he's covered up in critters.
Blood last nite , not sure why nobody is updating?
I don't wanna tell their stories! :D
And Charlie L. has some magazine cover photos!!!!
Sorry can't tell you what they are, :goldtooth: you know the copywrite stuff and all.
Yup, been waiting since I returned from Missouri for this week to unfold.
:campfire:
:campfire: :coffee:
You're right Izzy.....I haven't heard a thing!!
He is also a very impressionable young lad so I figure Lamb might be learning him a lesson or two.
Unfortunately I'm not there....nor does it look like I'll be there.
They might even start a different thread...but its hard to post and keep up while you are on hunts like these...and sometimes that even takes away from the hunt experience itself feeling 'pressured' to post.
I'm going to call in a bit and see how things are going.
Wish I was there.
I talked to Charlie...and he said they would start a 'Part II' thread as soon as he got back...and he also said to tell them....
"I promise I'll finish the story by December" :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Dang Charlie is pickin up the pace!!
Looks like I'm not getting a "nap" before work tonight!!!!! :coffee:
Charlie had something fall at his stand tonight...but thankfully there was no blood trail. :scared: :scared: :scared:
i hope Charlie J spilled some blood!
Terry I hope you're not telling us that Charlie was doing quality control tests on his safety harness? Maybe he just dropped a flashlight or arrow?
Best of luck to the guys there now! I'm headed out in a couple days to MO myself, about an hour up the road.
Hey Kenny, who will be there the next couple weeks? I need to stop by and chew the fat sometime.
R
:campfire: :campfire:
Everybody is good, just a scary deal. Charlie can tell ya when he gets back to internet.....
Ryan , the next group is coming shortly after the Charlies and Tom leave, due to his work, he asked if he could come early. A Dr from ID and his bro from TX and another buddy...
The guys will start telling their tales after the weekend I'm not even gonna attempt to tell it!
:campfire: TTT :coffee:
I'm not getting any updates or 'play by play'....which is fine with me...I'd rather read the writings instead....from the actual players.
I wish them the best as I sit here instead of there.
I mostly regret not meeting the other 'Charlies'...and seeing Tom Porter again.
Maybe next year....keep my spot open Kenny...
I'll be back..... :readit:
I'm getting snippits from Charlie J, I'm going to let them tell thier stories......... I just MAY be signing up for next year!! :campfire:
