:deadhorse: Please share your magnus stinger kills. Please specify if two blade or four blade. This is my first year using them. Thanks -Tristan
-
I'll be using them this year too. I hope I have a picture to post this year! I bought a Gatco sharpening kit with a ceramic finishing stone. I toughed them up and they are shaving sharp now!

4 blade 150 grain Stinger (now my go-to BH).
Other hogs and javelina using them. I like them all EXCEPT the 150 grain two blade. The ferrule is way to stumpy and looks like it would impede penetration.
-
I'm right there with ya Dennis, are you using two or four blade? Thanks Norbert! That is an awesome bull elk. Any noticeable difference in penetration/blood between the two and four blade?
-
I've killed 7 or 8 whitetails with both 2&4 blades and had pass-throughs on all except a doe when the 2 blade hit and broke the far shoulder blade.Only shoot 4 blades now, though,as I tend to get better blood trails from them.

Tristan,
I couldn't decide between two or four blade, so I bought both and as shooting both. I love seeing all these great game photos though! Congrats to all!

In short I think they are great heads. Most all of these were four blades. One elk with a two blade and one pronghorn with a four blade buzzcut.
-
Tristan,50@28 recurves. That's about my draw length.
Some great animals fellas, keep 'em coming!
-
Wow, these are all great photos! Thanks guys. I love seeing all the kill photos, keep em' coming!
-
Used them the last three seasons with wheels before making the switch to trad. Loved them then, and finally found a set up that works for them now. Be using them this season for sure! Congrats to everyone, and keep those awesome pics coming.
-
I have killed a few animals with stingers, I used a 125 grain 2 blade on my spike elk this year. The broadhead fractured a rib length wise going in and buried into the offside rib for a double lung shot.
(http://i681.photobucket.com/albums/vv172/connerparry/IMG_2777_zps168289e3.jpg) (http://s681.photobucket.com/user/connerparry/media/IMG_2777_zps168289e3.jpg.html)
I used a 150 grain 4 blade buzzcut for this buck a couple years ago. They are awesome broadheads. I shanked the shot on this mule deer buck and hit him just under the eye, the broadhead penetrated into his spine. The broadhead didn't show any damage and was still shaving sharp.

Here is my one and only trad kill, I should of had an elk two weeks ago, but I failed to line up the shot, either that or I pulled it. I used a 125gr 4blade buzzcut.
(http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f43/wachatz/deer2012/IMG_20121229_135456.jpg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/wachatz/media/deer2012/IMG_20121229_135456.jpg.html)
I had great impact splatter, but had a very sparse bloodtrail, but as it was in the snow, it was really easy to follow, the doe made it a couple of hundred yards, but I think that had a lot to do with the terrain and the lack of a hiding spot to layup in. I truly believe that the sparse blood trail had to do with the thick layer of fat she was sporting all around her trunk. I hit her high in the crease on the right and exited aft on the bottom off side due to her turning and ducking into the shot. Really couldn't of asked for better shot placement.
Just for reference, the shaft is a full length 32" and it penetrated way into frozen ground. (http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f43/wachatz/deer2012/IMG_20121229_130935.jpg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/wachatz/media/deer2012/IMG_20121229_130935.jpg.html)

I hit a doe with a very poor placed shot a few years ago (sounds weird since I'm 20) with a stinger and she left a blood trail anyone could follow. November 2011 I somehow managed to graze a 145" 9pt at 15 yards (he skylined me in a tree, ducked at the shot, turned uphill, then back down hill) i believe the only thing i did was cut hide. I did kill an 8pt with a magnus stinger October of 2010 (can't post picture, wheelie kill) and it blew through him so fast that he took a couple steps and just laid down underneath my treestand. They are a great broadhead and I'll have them riding the front of my arrows for years to come.

I shot the 2 blade stingers for a while, Now I use 3 blades (Woodsman, NAP Hellrazor, G5 Montec)as I was less than impressed with the blood sign the magnus left. I have a few 4 blade Buzz cuts, maybe I'll give them a day in court and see what for
-
i'm shooting the 4-blade 150s this year. have had good success in the past with 125s.
fly great and dependable.

Any noticeable difference in penetration/blood between the two and four blade? [/QB]
No, that is why I only shoot the 4 bladers now. Ferret's posts should pretty much answer any questions about using a Stinger!!
-
I've always said the bleeder on stingers is the perfect size and like beachbowhunter I use the 4 blades because of that. Use KME to get em really sharp and....

Mr. Burtis is a killing machine.
-
Awesome stuff guys! Beachbowhunter thanks I think I am going to go with the four blades then.
-
I didn't like the way the 4 blade rattled so its 2 blade stingers for me this year.
-
2 blade 150gr stinger out my Zona 52#@26" recurve. 550 gr total arrow weight. Broad head poked out behind the offside shoulder.

I have heard people have had that experience, but I have never had a loose one.

I have heard that too? Though I have yet to whitness it myself. I even checked a bunch of mine last night and none of them rattled.
-
If you look at the block in the ferrule that holds the bleeder in place magnus has put on the block a small little round rubber disc. Its just thick enough to act as a spacer to help hold things together. Somehow or another I had one of those disc come off and had a 4 blade that rattled.I ended up using a dab of fletch tite in there and after it dried no more rattling broadhead. Im sure I knocked it off resharpening or what have you but if they were new and rattling I would send em back and Magnus would replace em.

Good heavens, Cooch. You're an elk killing machine!
-
I'm so fired up to go home and hunt I can hardly stand it! :campfire:
-
I just wanted to bring this around again! I've always heard great things about these heads, but I recently saw them in action first-hand.
My 150 grain 4-blade blew through sooooo quickly I couldn't believe it! The head buried in the dirt on the other side completely!
There was blood everywhere.
Let's see those stingers kills and blood trails!

same here. 150-grain 4-blades for me. killed a doe and turkey with them last fall. pass-through, great blood. dead critters.
-
I've killed numerous elk and mule deer with 125 and 150gr 4 blades. I have also tested the 150 on cow shoulder blades. If the ferrule diameter of the broadhead is larger than the arrow shaft, penetration thru the shoulder blade was to the fletch. I've tried a lot of heads over the years but always seem to come back to the stinger.

Nice thread. Love the stingers/buzzcuts. I've found I can get them very sharp shot after shot using the Simmons Steelmaster. And I've yet to find a setup they don't fly great from.
-
Up to the top, considering shooting them this year.
4 blade-stinger or buzzcut is the question
-
I'll be using 2 blade 150gr Stingers this fall for the first time.
-
150gr 2 blade through the heart he ran a 15 yard circle and died 5 yards from where I shot him. 250 pounds field dressed. This was my first time using a stinger and I was very impressed on how it penetrated the tough shield and shoulder bone on this huge wild boar! Yup you guessed it I'm still using them 3 years later...

Nice guys!
-
Didnt realize they were this popular! How are they to sharpen? That would be my only concern.
-
I find them very easy to get shaving sharp, using the Steelmaster made by Simmons. I'm sure sharpeners like the KME would work just as well.
