I am going to try out carbons. I've shot woodies my whole.life and never touched carbon. I'm going with GTs. With woodies i shoot a 30.5" bop. I'd like to keep length the same. I'm shooting a 61#@28" caribow slynx drawn to 29.5. What spine, point weight, inserts, etc will get me in the ballpark?
Trying to get a carbon the same length as your wood arrows can be a hit or miss.Carbons don't come in as many different spines as wood and react differently.Your are drawing around say 64# to 65# roughly.Is your bow cut past center? I would go with a GT 75/95 and try some various point weights from 125 to 200 grs..I would start full length and trim and tune from there.The GT 75/95 spine should be stiff enough to add more front end weight with heavier points or inserts to get a heavier arrow for shooting out of your bow with your draw length and bow weight.You might want to try a test kit with a couple of different spines to try first.Big Jim just got some GT blems in at good prices.
With those specs you could probably shoot a .400 spine with a 125gr-150gr tip. That may make for an arrow lighter than you like. You could probably also shoot a .340 spine with 175gr-225gr up front. A .300 spine would be pretty stiff and I imagine you would have to really load the front end to get it to fly well.
Carbons are pretty forgiving. Having a few shafts and point weights can get you in the ballpark. From there you can fine tune to the shaft and point weight that shoot best and give you the weight you want. Good luck!
Ok, I'm new to this, how does a .400 spine compare to a 75/95?
GT Trads 5575=.400
GT Trads 7595=.300
GT pro Hunters 7595=.340
340-400, why not alum also a good choice
The 75/95 Nugent Gold Tips are .340 also. The trads are .300.

I shoot full length 55/75's out of a #53 @ 29 Slynx 325 up front.
I think your draw length will put in the .340's.
I shoot AD Trads cut to 30.5 with 100 gr brass insert and 300 gr point out of my 62# Slynx. I draw 29", the AD Trads are 11 gpi so my arrows are around 780 grains after adding nocks and fletch.

What is the spine rating of those ad trads?
It Is likely that you can get the 7595 trads to work well with your set up however, cutting them without trying them is pot luck at best!
I have been shooting a 31" arrow with 400g up front out of my longbows (80-85lbs @30"s) for years. I had to build my rest out a bit but they worked well.
At aprox 65#'s, it will take about 240g up front just to get to 9gpp of arrow weight (I prefer 10gpp).
That can be accomplished via 100g brass insert and 145g pt or just go to 250g pt.
In my opinion, you would do well with 300g up front and start off with a full length arrow and trim acordingly. The 340's are only available in the nugent, camo, or black shafts in the Gold tips and will also work.
Trust me, If you learn to shoot arrows with most of your weight up front, you will love it! Keep an open mind and it will open new doors for you.
