thinking about trying some badgers....anybody actually stuck a critter with them yet? they look pretty wicked
Josh
I purchased several with the idea of hunting with them but deer season snuck up and I realized I didn't have them sharp. I have not yet learned how to sharpen a single bevel very well so opening weekend I went to my trusty Magnus II and ended up filling my tag before I could get a KME sharpener and get the Badgers sharp. Next year for sure.
One thing for sure is that the FLY GREAT! I tuned them in and they slap the target right where you point them.
Cant wait until next year to see how they perform (hopefully).
JW
I'd like to try them but I'm afraid they would be classified as barbed and that would make them illegal to hunt with in Pa. Look like nice and sturdy heads. Can't wait to see how they work out for you guys.
Glenn
Hey coonbait, I'm pretty sure they are legal in PA, I read the regs and didn't see any barbed heads restriction. We had a good week last week, I will try to post some pics, of a couple of Badger kills
I was thinking the same thing. Barbed. I will double check later unless they pulled that or reworded it. But it did say barbed. It's because the heads are not square at the rear.
Here is a couple (http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac149/stephan109/9-21buck2_zps9bdd3c9e.jpg) (http://s894.photobucket.com/user/stephan109/media/9-21buck2_zps9bdd3c9e.jpg.html) ra (http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/ac149/stephan109/tradbear_zpse33c7c34.jpg) (http://s894.photobucket.com/user/stephan109/media/tradbear_zpse33c7c34.jpg.html) dbear_zpse33c7c34.jpg[/IMG]
Still having a problem getting them sharp enough to hunt with.
But they do fly great!
I have 1 more week to get them sharp, If not its back to the eskimos.
Stump...are you trying too hard?...I think you are the one that started the other thread...
Hit the bevel side, making sure you are flat to the bevel or barley off to the edge side...then turn over and lite stroke 2-3 times with an almost flat angle...its really not hard.
BTW...so far I've chased 3 bears and tried to cut another one off.....so hopefully soon.
Terry have tried the way you suggested, still not sharp enough to my standards.
Maybe I'm to picky. I lost an elk earlier so i'm even more concerned about sharpness now.
I had a buddy shooting them at the range yesterday and just now realized they are not legal in WA. Too bad because they flew great.
i dont think they are allowed in Ark. either
well I didn't see anything in Ohio regs about barbed...I really thought they used to be illegal here....so I guess I'll give them a shot
Barbed not allowed in IL.
I can shoot'em here in Missouri.
Now if I just had some to try...lol
God bless,Mudd
Sadly, I'm out too since I do a good bit of my hunting in NY ... no barbed heads
Legal in Oklahoma, I think they changed the broadhead restrictions to just a min width of 7/8ths, I had NO trouble sharpening them, to me the single bevel is the easiest thing to sharpen. These do fly great, I bought some this year just to try out,and I like them!
I think everyone better check their laws again too, I know several states that removed that language, Im pretty sure Illinois was one of them.

well maybe I ain't crazy then lol....could have swore they were illegal in Ohio but checked anyway...barbed isn't mentioned anywhere

Always a good idea to read the hunting regulations every year, Having hunted here for 40 years, its easy to feel like you know all the rules, but every so often they change something and some times its really well publicized but often not. Good luck!
Good to go in IL.
http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Documents/ArcheryDeerHuntingInformation.pdf
Illegal in Oregon, no barbed heads allowed.
Thanks two tracks do you know when they changed it?
I've never seen any thing about barbed arrows restictions in Arkansas they look good to go for there.

I think a few years ago.
No good in Minnesota either. It's too bad it looks like the ultimate head I almost ordered them from 3 River til I saw the barbed disclaimer. Get rid of the barb and you would sell a lot more.
What does "barbed " mean?

shot through both front shoulders of this one at 12 yds
Good guys!!!! Great Heads!!!! I know the work Stephen has put in his design. Give this head a try and forget about the archaic barbed heads regs that are not part of most state regs anymore. Been stopped many times over the years by game wardens doin their job.....not one wanted to check my broadheads. johnnyboyscout out!!! :D
OK, OK I want to see something shot thru both BACK shoulders. . . :dunno:
ChuckC
I wanna know what barbed means
That's the 2nd bear I've seen killed with them...the 1st went only 40 yards...hoping to get one this weekend...will be hard after them!!!
Save me one Tee Bone!!!
A barbed head is a broadhead that comes back up at an angle from the cutting surface to the ferrule. These heads do that to some degree. And yes John I've been approached by game wardens doing their jobs and no I've never been asked to show my broadheads. But does that give me the right to do something that is written in the regs. that say I can't do it. Come on, aren't we better than that here on this site?
Glenn
I like the looks of these heads. Think I will try some.
I believe most states did away with the barbed head regs. because of the use of mechanical heads. Missouri changed the a few years back.
Stephen
I need to touch base with you. Got a fella who walked in shop the other day wanting to try your heads. I'll touch base with an order shortly. I hope to post a pic of a kill with one of the heads you sent us earlier. Stay tuned.
Coon
I'm not in charge of whats better for your rights, regs, values, choices or ethics that's up to you....which has nothing to do with my previous post. But I am all about supporting a hardworking traditional vendors trying to make a living in a fickle world. I use them and will continue to use them where I see fit. Good luck on your quest. :D
Here is a badger kill with one of my hog hunters. 40 yard recovery.

John I don't want to start a problem on this thread, And I also deal with the vendors that advertise on this site. Including you. I have one of you Slim-Jim quivers on my Predator bow, and love it. But I'm not a so called Boy Scout, I just try and do things legally. And I'd like nothing more than try these broadheads. They look really nice and I hope they work out for everybody who does use them. But you came across as saying if you don't get caught it's OK ! And it's not.

Actually Ranger, they are now. The barbed wording was removed from the regs a few years ago for the mech head shooters, so barbs away if you want.
Coon
I agree with you. That's why its not good for you to assume others intentions. Good hunting! :D
PS By the way....I'm the boyscout. :)
that clip of the broadhead blasting right through the SHOVEL is all I need. I'm sold. They look like fantastic heads! I really hope they get the "barbed" thing straightened out so guys in all 50 states can give them a go.
Yeah, I hope so too...

got this one yesterday
Awesome Stephen!! You & the Badger broadheads are sure wreaking havoc up there in the North GA Mountains.
Awesome Dude!!!
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but you can hunt with this head in every state cause I said so.....Just file or grind the barb end off if you want them and "Everybody" can use them and it 100% Legal after that...
I went bear hunting with Tee Bone of Banger Broadheads, wild adventures and experiences to say the least....but those stories will have to wait....
Saturday afternoon around 3:00 I was easing down the right side of a road bed when I saw a doe coming up a bank on my right out of nowhere. She stepped out into the road about 10 yards ahead and looked right at me. Get this,...she acted like I wasn't even there...looked ahead and walked across the road and scampered up a steep bank to the top and just stopped and started looking around left and right.....
I eased up the road a bit and crossed over to the left side of the road trying to find a shot, one which I would have to 'manufacture' to get into the goodies under the limbs. I leaned right, squatted and laid a pretty sever cant on the bow. After all she also was pretty severe...severely uphill and quartering away...
I drew the bow and released all in one motion and the arrow magically went right were I was looking.
The arrow made a very audible 'slice' sound as it entered and I saw the arrow still in her when she made her 1st leap, then I heard a 2nd leap and then nothing, nothing at all. So I backed out.
Like I said, I was bear hunting, and was doing so with Tee Bone of Medicine Bear Archery, and one of his Badger Broadheads. I knew Tee was still at the shooting course and hadn't left to hunt yet so I went to get him to help me as I needed to get back to bear hunting.
Here's what we found 8 yards from the impact....
Here's the angle of the arrow, from the bottom up. (Note the broadhead almost breaking out)...
And here's the reason for the shot placement...

Thanks for all your help this weekend Tee....I had a blast. We'll have to get after those pesky squirrels one day. :campfire:

Terry, now that's STEEP. Never saw an arrow path like that on an animal before
