Title: New Grizzly 185 question
Post by: Iowabowhunter on September 22, 2013, 05:58:00 PM
Looking at the 185's for my wood arrows. I have a KME broad head & knife sharpener, with the KME stones. Should I be able to obtain a scary sharp edge with these tools on the new Grizzly 185 grain heads?

tell you what, we use the Japanese water stones and we get them RAZOR sharp. The grizzly heads are a bit tougher with the single bevel, but if you keep the angle the same and wide, you can get them SCARRY sharp. So any flat stone can do the trick. Strop it with leather when your done for a really good edge.

I have been using the 185 gr and 130 gr new grizzlys.  I have been sharpening them with the standard coarse and fine stones in the kme broadhead kit.  I finish them on cardboard.  They have been coming out scary sharp and I am a sharpening challenged individual!

Ken told me he uses the knife sharpener on the grizzly 185. A lot of the work has been done for you.  Most of mine had a burr on the back side of the bevel when I received them in the mail.

I've done them with both the KME knife sharpener as well as the broadhead sharpener. It should work well for you.

Its hard to beat a file with the grizzly heads. Then finish it off with a fine stone then strop. I have always been challenged sharpening heads but I can have one of these taking the hair off your arm in less than 10 minutes.

I used the knife/bh sharpener on some 160 grizz I just got, got the sharpest blade I've ever felt, the hair just fly's off. Using the standard KME stones.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Was really looking into those Abowyers, funds are just tight n I can get 6 Grizzly's for less $ than the Brown Bear's. I've never used a single bevel, Hoping to talk my wife into letting me get a doe tag, got a couple leads on some private hunting grounds so wish me luck!
