Title: Fletch Tite Platunum Alternative
Post by: LV2HUNT on September 21, 2013, 12:10:00 PM
Up until about 5 years ago I had been fletching aluminum shafts with Bohning Fletch Tite. My last batch 5 years ago I had problems with fletch adhesion.

I always prep my shafts with denatured alchohol and had never had issues. I read about the bad batch(es) previously and assumed that had been resolved. I recently went back to aluminum from carbons and went and got a fresh tube of fletch tite. Prepped my shafts, even lightly sanded just in case, and still bad adhesion.

You can clearly see there is no bond from the fletch to the shaft. They simply peel cleanly off without any leftover material from the fletch.

Is there any suitable and reliable replacement for fletching to aluminum shafts?

Check out a thread I recently started for a similar issue. Lots of suggestions in there.

I have used Saunder's NPV fletching glue on bare aluminum, haven't had any problems.I always prep my shafts and clean well,as you described.Alot of times I use some arrow wraps on aluminum also,to brighten up the end of the arrow.Never had any problem with Platinum or Saunder's  glueing on wraps.

I use wraps to ensure I don't have a fletching issue.

I dunno, I've always used fletchtite and more recently (last 4-5 years) the Platinum with excellent results.  I haven't lost a feather in..........a long, long time (so long ago that I can't even remember it).  I think my last tube was bought in the spring.  I always prep my carbon shafts the same way I did the aluminum - rub vigorously with Acetone on a paper towel until the shaft squeeks, then don't touch the area you want to fletch before you put your feather on.  After the arrow has dried I put another drop on each end of the feather and sometimes run an extra tiny bead down the thick side of the quill again.

It was an unpopular opinion on the last thread but I'll throw it out again.  I very rarely prep anything, most of the time I do nothing.  Occasionally I'll wipe with denatured alcohol but it's rare.  I've never had an arrow lose a feather with fletch tape and I'm not kind to them.

I use the Fletch Tite Platinum on my black Gold Tip carbon shafts and never have any problems with feathers coming off.

X2 I don't know if there are bad batches of this stuff or what the deal is. I hear all kinds of bad things about it though. I've fletched up carbon and aluminum and never had a problem.

I loved the old FletchTite. Finally gave up on the Platinum. I'm using the NPV now and prep my aluminum shafts by cleaning with acetone and a dip in colored or clear Bohning paint... just to be sure.

I never have trouble with Fletch Tite Platinum, but I'm always putting my feathers on over wraps or paint/poly.

I have been using fletch tape with a drop of fletchtite on each end. I shoot cx heheritage 250 so the coating may make the difference.

When I do use glue, Platinum on carbs/alums and Duco on wood. Usually use tape on all with great results, even in the rain!
