Title: first trad kill of the year
Post by: gringol on September 20, 2013, 05:41:00 PM
I got to my spot at about 5:30 in the afternoon.  It's ungodly hot here right now, but I knew game would be moving.  Down here the critters have learned to cope with the heat better than I have.  I settled in and knocked a arrow.  Already I could feel beads of sweat formed on my brow, threatening to drip onto my glasses.

Just as I started to question the logic of leaving the A/C and that frosty home brew I have in the fridge I caught movement from the corner of my eye.  He hadn't made me yet, he was intent on that sweet young thing to my left.

He paused about 16 yds from my, quartering slightly away.

I drew, picked and spot, and the arrow was gone.

The shot looked good, but the arrow didn't seem to slow down at all.

I almost forgot that brew in the fridge.  Be right back...

Well, maybe a soda - it IS hot today !

I went out Sunday afternoon before the thunderstorms - sweat threatening to drip on the eyeglasses ? My glasses were covered in sweat by the time I got set-up.   :(

I waited the appropriate amount of time, then eased out of my brush blind to see what was what.

The blood trail was short and oh so sweet.

Gotta feed the kid, back in a few...

I am from NY State, so my question may seem kind of ignorant.... how do you score a critter like that?  Cut him in half and count the rings....?

Great shooting!

Agreed with above: That was One Heck of a Shot!! How do you Field Dress a Lizard that Little, or do you just Whoop Up a Fire and Toast in on the arrow? Crunchy Snack!

I know I couldn't make that shot twice in a row, or probably even twice in a hundred, but I'm still enjoying it.
