Title: Squeaky back quiver ?
Post by: Pat B. on September 20, 2013, 10:15:00 AM
It's still quite warm here and I'm wearing long sleeved cotton T-shirts..  My leather back quiver, which is in great shape, squeaks when it rubs against my T-shirt. Not all the time, for instance, when I'm just walking it's pretty much silent..

However, often when I draw and my back muscles "work" against the quiver I'll get a little squeak from the quiver rubbing on my shirt.  I imagine if I wore wool I wouldn't have this issue, but it's hot !

The quiver is nicely oiled from the maker and is silent by itself, the squeak comes from it rubbing on my clothing.

Anyone else have this occur ??  Wonder what I could do to eliminate the slight noise ?  Help would be appreciated..

I do not have much experience with this, but If i were you, i would try to put some different type of material on the quiver.  Doesn't have to be anything special, could be a camo bandanna, could be some mole skin, anything you desire. Just something that is a quiet material and that should fix your problem.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Use back quivers all the time and have never had a problem with any shirt material causing a squeak.  Sometimes rubbing lightly on a belt can do it, but if you are sure it is the shirt, I'm at a loss to offer any help.

It could be the leather working against it self where ever there are two pieces laced together ei the strap connection, the cuff etc. I had this problem with a Catts side quiver but a good coating of Obenauff's leather conditioner and a day in the hot sun soaking it in  worked wonders.  Lexol is great as well but the Obenauff's was the solution in this case. Use an old tooth brush and a popsicle stick to force the conditioner into all the lacings and anywhere leather to leather contact is made.  I'm not convinced it's your clothing. Just another thought. Use it every chance you get and it shuold get better with use.

If you really think it is squeaking against your T-shirt, I'd try a different T-shirt. If you're wearing cotton, try a polyester like Under Armor, or vice versa.

On the bright side, be thankful you can hear the squeak. For a few of us, it takes a 12ga report to register   :(

Ron, you may be right... The squeak may be inconsequential. And since the noise is close to my ear it may sound worse than it is.

I've been thinking the same about trying a shirt of different material..  Just have to find some.

Pat it is obvious that from your weekly post the PIGGYS can't here the squeak either until its to late. The only squeak they may here is when there buddy gets a sharp Grizzly through the lungs.   :scared:   Love your posts, keep at them.

Could also be the strap strings pulling on the quiver if its sticky and your sweating under it.

I'd say this may be the culprit. Where the strap is laced to the quiver body gets stretched when you draw and the increased tension causes the squeak.

Or it could be the spirits of all the pigs you've killed trying to talk to you.

Pat - You are SuperPigSlayer, and should just put your SuperPigSlayer cape under your back quiver.

I am guessing that the quiver and not the shirt is squeaking, because it is getting stretched.  The shirt may keep it from sliding as much as before and so it stretches and squeaks.  My belt does that too from time to time.

Nah, the back pops and cracks, lol... Come to think of, so does everything else.

One of my older friends has been telling me for years that he had the creeps. I didn't know what he was talking about. I do now!

Good ideas, all. One by one, I'll keep after it until it quiets down.

Take the shirt off and try it, see if it still squeaks..
Is the shirt new, our has it been washed a few times....
