Well last spring I joined a few friends at the Baltimore Bowmans Traditional Shoot. It was one of the best times I have had in a long time and I decided it was time to get back to it. I had not picked up trad gear since 1972. After many days on the range and lots of reading and relearning techniques I finally felt ready this fall to take my trad gear afield. I have to give a shout out to Tragdgang as I gained a lot of knowledge here.
After passing on a few does that still had fawns with them and others that just did not give me that perfect shot I finally got a shot at this buck yesterday evening. Not to brag but I have not missed a deer in many years with my wheel bow but I was pretty nervous on this first shot with my Big River longbow. I passed up a lot of shots the last three days out waiting for just the perfect shot. At times I thought I was being a little picky and using that as an excuse not to take that first shot. He finally gave me a nice quartering away shot (22 yards). Picked my spot made the draw and let er fly. Shot went pretty much where I was looking last rib on the right side and point exited out right behind the off shoulder. He ran maybe 75 yards and I heard him crash. Smallest whitetail buck I have killed in many years but I have to rank this right up there as one of my most memorable trophys.

Your smile tells the story. Welcome back, I bet you don't wait 40 years for the next deer :)
Awesome. Nice buck, shot, and story.
I'm gonna beat Mudd to the punch here.
"How cool is this? Way, I'm sayin!"
Congrats on coming back and a great story!
Awesome! A drop tine no less.
Congrats! That is fine trophy, one you shoul be proud of!
No comparison to shooting one with a wheel bow is it? Congrats and welcome back!!!
Good lookin' deer, Congrats to you.
No comparison hunting between the two. This has been a fun journey picking up a new bow, settling on a arrow and Broadhead combo. And most of all changing my stand locations. I could easily set up for the 35 yard shot with the wheel. Not so with the trad gear at least not for me. By the way I was using a Big River 66" 43#@ 28, using ICS Hunter 500 with a 150 grain Magnus 4 blade. Very happy with the performance with the Magnus. Speaking of Magnus I had my arrows fletched with some of Magnus' 5 1/2 natural turkey feathers.
Awesome story and great buck. Congrats on a fine animal.

Congratulations Tony. That smile says it all!!!
The first trad deer is every bit as good as the first deer ever, isn't it? Almost like you are able to step back in time and experience the thrill to be young again!
Congratulations, and may there be many more for you.
Welcome back nice buck.
Well done. The stick-bow hunting experience has trumped any other kind that I've done, and I'll do it as long as I'm able.

Congratulations Tony and Welcome back to traditional bowhunting...
Maryland has many folks that shoot Traditional on both sides of the Bridge and some are deer killing machines...If you haven't met Tony Sanders yet "look out" he's deadly with any kind of trad bow.. He almost takes the bag limit every year with his bow and I've been waiting to see his "mug shot" on here but nothing yet...
Again welcome back!
Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a nice buck and a nice shot.
