Title: Quillian Canebrake information
Post by: Igor on September 17, 2013, 12:07:00 PM
I recently picked up a canebrake (53# - 62") with the serial number DQ5171. I know (from what I've read) that he had several different bowyers build his bows. Can anyone give me some feedback based on this serial number?

Thanks

BTW - I'm very impressed with this bow...light in the hand - very quiet for a recurve and as fast as any I've shot...

they were built by Jeffrey Archery.  Think they had a 6 inch brace height

Jeffrey built the early ones, Martin the next batch. These bows were measured at 26" not 28". So that bow is really 53# at 26" and the brace s/b 6" to 6 1/4" max.

Also, the early ones had a shelf cut similar to a longbow for less arrow contact.

Joe

Is that 6 1/4 from the back of the shelf or from the throat of the grip? I've read from the back of the rest or shelf? It does have a narrow shelf...I have it at 7" from the throat of the grip and I don't know if I want it any lower as the feathers are close to the shelf at that that height......

Thanks
