Title: First shot at a critter with my homemade "Hill" style bow

7:22 am. I actually let a doe with a spotted fawn go by in hopes of a buck but this one came in by herself. My restraint only holds for so long. 1st deer of the year 2013. 12 yards with a homemade Hill style longbow and Ace standard head.
 I hit a tad forward but got both lungs and a lot of blood for about 100 yards and done. Good start. I gotta face it...I ain`t a big buck hunter.

Way to go RC! I know what you mean about not being a "big buck hunter". Given the choice to shoot 2 or 3 does with my bow, or 1 buck, most of the time I would take the does! I just like to hunt and shoot critters with my longbow!

Eating that fresh Doe meat only primes the pump for the Buck that follows! Always good to see a brother posed with a kill. Good one RC, did you put some cedar behind that ACE? A Hill bow likes wood the best.   ;)

Thanks guys. Knawbone I was shooting some carbon arrows I have. I cut the bow a bit more to center than most hill bows hoping I would be able to shoot arrows I already have and it worked .They shoot good.
 Dan, the bow is a 66" string follow I made from action boo. Nothing scientific for sure from me just glued up and cooked then sanded till it looked and felt right. Then fine tuned a bit till it shot straight and  quiet for me. I really like the tennis wrap grip. It feels good.I asked a lot of questions on the bowyers forum and sent Charlie a pm. All were helpful. I`m gonna hunt with this one a bit and maybe around the first of the year try to take my time and build a purty one.By the way...I`m loading pictures of a good hunt this evening. for once the does are NOT winning. RC

RC- what kind of riser and lam wood did you use? Looks like bubinga and maybe walnut. Great scripture to keep you focused. I always put Job 12:7 on mine. Good job!
