Nice Scott E,Thanks for the well wishes guys. We spent most of the day in the woods. We where set by 5am, and stayed until 10:30. Got out for breakfast and screwing around. Back in by 1:30 to 7. Between the 4 of us 6 deer where seen. Not bad for a rainy opener. Much better than work! We will keep you posted, we should be out again by the latest on Saturday. Ooh Yeah!
Nice Scott E!
The CT trad gangers need to get together one day.
Scott E - I'd be up for that.
Start a thread or PM me
Good Luck, we've got to wait a few weeks but I'm already there in spirit!!
Good job Scott E, congratulations! Sounds good about getting together with some other trad gang hunters in CT.
Sat in the woods today from 3:30-7:00 and did not see a deer. :banghead: :dunno:
Pete, you would be hard pressed to hunt with abetter group of people, yourself included.
Congrats Scott
Thanks Charlie. Scott definately. Matt, out of work at 3:30? You got the life! I'm jealous.
Kevin can you give me a call? Rick in NY
kevin well the story
no penatration!
pete has been razing me all the time about the penetration i dont get verses how much he gets. well lets just say thats been setteled. the town we live in just opened up a new piece of property to bow only. so after we got our permission slipes we went scouting and hung a few stands. yesterday pete me and our friend bob ment at 5 at petes to go hunting.we drooped off pete with his climber and bob and i went to the parking area. as we started to go in we noicted the dome lights in the car did,nt go off i told bob to leave and i would figure it out. after much door slaming and horn honking i got them off, i figured by this time pete was problry swearing in his tree stand.
Dang Kevin, no penetration? Same problem cuz has. Nice deer by the way. I'll post a pic if you like. Can't help with the penetration.
too make matters worse i didnt find my stand right away, and was lighting up the area loooking for the stand. after finding the stand i setteld in for a nice morning of nothing. we had agreeed that pete would get down and push the adjoning field at about 9 oclock. at 845 i saw two deer coming my way and the game suddleny changed. the bigger doe was feeding my way on low hanging branches.at about 22 yards she was broad side but i held off for a closer shot. with all the low branches i though i would have to thread the niddle when she walked into the shooting lane.
well that shoot never presented itself as she was to deep in the brush. at this point i had been watching this doe for about twenty mintues when my phone starts vibrating and its pete wanting to know if i have seen anything! not wanting him to start climbing down i texted him back, YES NOW! as soon as i had done that the doe started to move the only problem i had it was running out of the bushes it was feeding on, just as i had guessed it moved quickley through the next opening and stopped with its vitales cover.but she made the mistake of taking two more steps and stopping in the shooting lane at about 17 yards.
ok izzy ill send yousome in a bit

I can post the one you texted me yesterday.
check your mail izzy
auto pilot took over and the next thing i know is im watching my arrow disappear into the does side where i am looking and she is gone around the corner in a flash. then the shaking starts. after getting the shaking under control, but not stopping, i texted pete ,Shot. pete texed me back ,well. not beging very good on texting or the computer for that matter i called pete and we decided he would climb down push thru the over grown field and pick up bob.
after what seemed like forever pete and bob appeared. after a few brief questions from pete about the shot i guided him to where the doe had been standing when i shot. pete then mutters someting under his breath, about penertration and turns to me and says you got a compelte pass thur with bright red lung blood. i was never so happy to prove someone. wrong in my life.pete took a few pictures, as i was climbing down.as it worked out when the doe had disppeared around the corner out of my sight she had just taken her last few steppes. she had only gone about twenty yards, i had hit both lungs and the top of the heart with my shot. as it turned out pete had deer under him in the dark and bob had jumped a deer going into his stand. good friends and good peneration made for a great day.
I can post the one you texted me yesterday.
Congratulations Kevin . It was good to hear about your hunt .
NICE JOB MUST WENT BETWEEN TWO RIBS TO GET A PASS THROUGH !!!! :notworthy:
CONGRATULATIONS KEVIN NICE JOB !!!!!! :archer:
Yeah but he aimed for the gap between the ribs, and calculated the rotations of the broadhead so it entered vertically to slip between those ribs. Now thats a good shot!
pete speaking of broadheads ill be needing to sharpen this one again
pete speaking of broadheads ill be needing to sharpen this one again

Plenty of season left guys.

Iz, how come when I rotate my I pad over and over. The picture is still upside down? Lol
Just razzin ya..
Great job Kevin.
Went out hunting today. Missed a little 5 point in the AM. No excuses, just a plain miss. Izzy- you are right, maybe I should have Kevin give me some help. Do you know where I can find a good weeze call? Hope to get out this week- 0 for 1. in 2013 :banghead:
OK Matt, thats it!!! Im gonna call Kevin and arrange to have you sit on the floor next to his throne while he schools you in the arts of shooting and hunting. Kevin is getting on in age so he can prolly help you with that weeze call as well. hang in there.
Izzy I am good I can do it on my own. Ask Kevin how he does with a grunt and wheeze call. I did the scouting and told him where a nice buck was. Ask Kevin about his hunt on Saturday morning. You can go with him anytime you would like to come up. :readit: :nono:
Out hunting again today. The deer seem to be moving more and more with the cold weather. But just can't connect. Missed a nice little 6 point. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Bummer Homer. Glad you are getting excited!
Congrats Bob! I am glad it all came together. What an early Thanksgiving gift! :archer2: :archer2:
By the way, I forgot- congratulations to Pete as well to his double kill in one day. Haven't been on in a while and forgot to mention it. 2 in one night! Great job.
Congrats Pete! Good luck Matt
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/IMG958676-3.jpg) (http://s122.photobucket.com/user/2crazyboys_photos/media/IMG958676-3.jpg.html) Another Connecticut feller who was so lucky to be educated by Kevin, (KWC) the master bowhunter. He put Kevins teachings to use and killed his 1st trad deer. Whats the story Homie?
well?????
first thing i have nothing to do with bobs shooting skills. second as the story goes he miss the first shot at four yards, not like we all haven't been there. whats more amazing after missing the first shot,he had enough composure when presented with a second shoot, of over twenty yards, to made a great double lung shot. but not being sure of the shot he made, and the impending darkness,he marked the last blood and backed out. the following morning, with the help of matt, peter, and myself he followed a clear blood trail right to his first traditional harvest,a very nice doe congratulations bob on a well deserved trophy
Wow izzy your the best we appreciate you posting the pic. For some reason he can't log on to tradgang so he only reads. Well bob has been shooting the recurve for a couple of years he shoots a 55# Martin mamba and obviously well. He has shot deer with a compound but this is his first with the recurve and he has been really out there trying. We set this stand up a week or so ago and this was his second sit. I was sick and couldn't hunt so he planned to work through Saturday. With nothing better to do while laying on the couch I started texting him, harraassing him telling him to get out and hunt!
Well I think he got tired of my calls and at 14:31 he said I'll call you in a few hrs. At 16:24 I get a txt " got your knife". The story went as Kevin said a deer came in busted him and went behind him. This second deer came in I guess from behind and was very close. I think sometimes too close is worse. Anyway he shot and missed the deer ran off and stopped. It turned broadside and he shot. He later measured the shot with a tape. 33 yards! In his defense it was a large deer so it may have looked closer. I don't think I would have taken the shot but if it feels good I guess go with your gut.
He told me thought the shot was back, but the arrow looked good. He tracked it about 70 yds over the tracks and into the marsh. With light dying and not being positive on the shot I advised to back out. It wasnt necessary, the next morning with the sun out the trail looked like my 3 yr old painted it. Congrats Bob!
:clapper: Congrats Bob!
atta boy BOB :archer2:
12 6 13 got 1 to day 20y double lung more later :campfire:
Congrats Matt, looking forward to the story
CT'ers, no offense but why is your season so late? Is it the first deer season by any method? I assume it's based on harvest numbers your DNR says can be supported, otherwise I'd demand some new wildlife geniuses, lol! I'm truly sorry, I would have to move. I'll will readily admit to becoming a wuss in my silver years. I like hunting in my shirt sleeves in Sept-Oct. Further South and there's too many skeeters and crawly things. This was the first year in forever that I didn't get a deer during our bow season (thanks to work) and I will confess to taking a deer during our current gun season at 10 deg.F. There's no way I could have even thought about shooting a bow accurately in those conditions.
Old Dog- Our season runs from Sept 15- Dec 31 on private and bowhunting only areas. It is closed for shotgun and muzzleloaders on regular public lands Mid Nov -late Dec. We can take 2 antlerless and 2 either sex. In 2 southern zones, the season extends thru the end of Jan with the ability to take 2 extra deer.
We can be pretty warm in Sept and very cold in Dec(1"of snow/sleet last night). So we have a little bit of everything. We seem to have a decent deer population(don't know exact numbers) and the only problem I have with the state is that we just legalized those bows you should sideways with a scope and trigger.
Lets hear that story!
:campfire:
Yes - what bfrbmj said - we have a long and varied season. I couldn't hunt much early because of work but now I have the rest of December and January. Not bad.
Okay, sympathy's over...now I'm jealous, lol! I'm in N.C.'s northwest district that has the longest bow season (usually around the 2nd week of Sept.thru the 2nd week of November), but our wonderful WRC gave the best week of archery season(the last) to the muzzleloaders several years ago. That does it, I'm moving north...cold is not so bad if you say it real fast!
Just got back from a Thanksgiving and hunting trip in PA. I got our of work on Friday because of the rain about lunchtime. I decided to go and check my tree stands and the cards in my trail cameras, taking my bow. I walked up on a little button buck at 35 yards. He didn't notice me, and I watched him for about 15 minutes. He was limping pretty bad so I decided it was the right thing to keep him from suffering. Made a 20 yard double lung shot.
well done
Nice job buddy!!
A good day it was !!!!!!!! Happy happy happy !!!!!!
Congrats to all who have tied a tag, and good luck to all who haven't. :campfire:
