I shoot CE Heritage 150's,30" long and they fly great from my 51@28" BW PSAX.Soon,I will be getting a 52#@28" Toelke Whip, can I expect to shoot the same arrows or might I have to weaken them a little?
They are 125 and they bareshaft perfectly. My Widow likes stiff arrows.
Your Widow is cut 3/16" past center if the Toelke Whip is cut the same you should be close if its not you will most likely be stiff.
anyone else?
I have a 51@28 64" whip. I've tried CX 45/60. I have to shoot them full length with 160 up front to get them to bare shaft. At that they tend to be a little stiff. I also have a 58@28 62" that will shoot the same arrow with 125 up front just great. I also shoot Axis FMJ 400 with 145 up front @ 30" out of my 58lb. They shoot great!
I should mention that my draw is actually 29. So I'm shooting 54 and 61 out of those whips.
Shawn,
I must be doing something wrong with my Widow then because the bareshaft hits square and in the same group with feathered shafts. Also, broadheads hits dead on with the FP's.
Oh darn, I thought you were sending me a present...
If they are bareshafting good and flight is great, I'd say they work just fine out of your Widow. Like Wtpops said, if the windows are cut the same past center on both bows I would think they will be darn close for you.
I have a new Whip 52 @ 26. I shoot 28* 150's 220g point and 50g brass insert,, never had a bareshaft fly better,,Frank
Sorry, If you bareshaft test (as per O.L. website) and they are flying perfect for you. Don't listen to what others say. Each shooter/bow are different. Sorry, what works for one may not for another. Mark
kingrider, bow down... the king has spoken! You most definatley are wrong as all things are the same for everyone. Give me a break. Try some different tip weights and use one of your shafts as a "test" shaft to cut down 1/4" at a time til you get good flight . Not that hard.
I use Arrow Dynamics Trads....and all this arrow 'guessing/spine' stuff went out the window when I started using them.
I can grab any bow I own, and any head from 125 to 250 grains and it don't matter. These arrows fly from any bow/head combo I want to shoot on that given day.
I never have to ask or wonder 'what arrow will shoot good'.
I have recently made the switch to those also Terry. Point weight is about all I need to adjust myself.
Spoke with Ted at Raptor Archery yesterday, ordered another doz. Trad Traditional myself.
He seems to have been doing a bit of testing of these shafts himself. Might give him a shout as to what he has found out. Pretty much SPOT on with what Terry just said.
Terry's post is a perfect example of a truth to traditional archery: there are very, very few hard and fast rules that aren't different for each individual.
I can't get his AD's to fly out of any of my bows...and boy have I tried. But, they fly good for me out of his bows...go figure. I prefer the now discontinued Carbon Express Terminator Hunters, but that's another story.
I think you have to test arrows for yourself. Too many variables, including the variable of the shooter...as one example, one may deep hook, one fingertip...makes a big difference in what spine arrow each needs for the same bow.
Good luck in your testing, you will learn quite a bit if you just jump in and give it a try. Check OL Adcock's website for some excellent advice on starting to tune.
I have a whip. 55#@28.5" AMO. In order of performance, in my experience:
1. Sitka Spruce 60-65# spine
2. Carbon Express Maxima 3D select 250's weighted up Toelke's way.
3. Beman MFX 400's, wieghted up Toelke's way.
All with 125 grain heads. Remember Mr. Toelke likes to see 9-13 g.p.p. arrows used on the whip. Stick to that recommendation and it is quietest long bow I have heard yet.
Just my $0.02
congrats on a whip, Dan is the man when it comes to bows, just ask him what to use. He is hardly wrong. My .02

I e-mailed Mr.Toelke and he said my arrows should be a good match. But, he may not be an expert like others on this thread.
Terry's right on the trads They shot out of all my bows with 100 grain inserts or not, very easy arrow to tune..ED
What is the website for the AD Trads and where is the best place to get them?
Here is a Sponsor of TradGang that will be able to answer your questions

I shoot easton epic and axis 500's out of my bows and they fly great with a 125gr point. I shot the Heritage shafts before i went to these but switched because the heritage 150's are 10 grains per inch and i like a lighter arrow than that. The Heritage 150's should fly fine with a 125gr point with weight you are shooting. Like a couple others said the only reason they might not is because of the amount of centershot on the whip. But that could be fixed with a lil adjustment in point weight. Let us know how they shoot for ya out of the whip.
What works for some, may simply not work for others....
That's just the way it is with about any arrow....to many variables to say something 'won't' work without trying it out for yourself.
"weighted up Toelke's way"
Can you explain this a little more?
I had some carbons made by Dan once. He used Ballistic powder (for reloading shotgun shells) to weight the arrows. I assume this is what is being referred to.
Ok Terry You have my attention! Arrow what?
OK I got my Whip today--Not much serious tuning going on cause really windy outside. My CE 150's fly good but I have some Goldtips with 100 inserts plus 125 points seem to fly a little better, more time to try tomorrow. One question,my Widow is alot heavier than my Whip and I'm thinking that a strap on quiver might add some weight and be a little more stable for me.What is a good strap on quiver that would work on the Whip and not add any noise.--Thanx
There are several good quivers out there depending on how many arrows you want to carry. Myself, I prefer the thunderhorn's.
I recently received a Whip from Dan, 54@28 and I draw about 27 and a half. So far have had really good luck with Gold Tip 5575 cut to 29" with about 250 grains of point weight.
Mine also seems to really like Easton 2016s at 29" with a 125 grain point, but I like the weight of the tip weighted gold tips a little better.
I like the looks of the Thunderhorn quiver, but for me, nothing beats the great northern strap quiver. I use it on all my longbows. If only I could get a mounting system like the great northern with the looks of a thunderhorn small fry.
