Title: Banana feather chopper mod
Post by: topGUN on September 11, 2013, 08:44:00 PM
I have several dozen turkey feathers I am wanting to chop. I would like to do 4"-4.5" long by no more than 1/2"high banana feathers. My question is for you guys who have modified your chopper, did you start with the high back or low back chopper. Thanks in advance, Jeff

I have a low profile and tried to make 4" and it turned out about 3/16 tall. I would use the higher profile.

I have the higher profile one and did the mod, and it makes a nice feather.

You guys should really invest in a burner.  It is just so easy!

Ya, I agree.  If you want to play with different patterns, feather burner is the way to go. It's alot of fun and it is also way more consistant.

I use a popsickle stick as a "fence" on my high back banana chopper.  I tape it down and can remove it if I want full size fletchings.  With the stick firm against the bottom it cuts a 4" fletch.  I have also used it with double sided foam tape to make a 5" fletch with the same cutter.

Getting consistant chops is no problem with the choppers. I just chopped 314 5" low pro bananas and they are all identically perfect.

It depends on what height you want on your 4" cuts. If you want tiny use a low profile. If you want bigger use the high back.
