It never ceases to amaze me how and arrow can hide.
Under a grass mat its "lost" even with bright fletchings.
You can spend hrs looking for one walking in circles and trampeling over it.
I did it last night as I finally got a pitch fork that works well.
One shaft not lost "this time"
metal detector would be nice.....
and they are not that expensive....
when it's under grass, I take my shoes off and walk around. If you walk over it, you'll find it.
Go Pink! :bigsmyl:
I just make the kids find it!!!!
Scuffing my feet in grid formation usually turns them up in the leaves where I shoot.
I am embarrassed to say that I have watched errant arrows fly into my groomed front yard lawn and still not be able to find them. Pink, yellow, chartreuse fletchings, it make no difference if they are below the mat of grass. I've even had my kids walk barefoot, tried using a metal detector and still not find them. When the powers that be want an arrow, kiss it good bye! I guess that's why they sell arrows by the dozen!! HA! :p
I had a Labador Retriever who would sniff the grass and smell my flectchings. When I was looking for lost arrows and realized what he was doing I taught him to scratch when he smelled one. He would smell, scratch until the fletching showed and then stop. People actually paid me to take him in their backyard. I would let him smell some of their existing fletchings and then he would locate the lost ones. He was my once in a lifetime dog!

x2 on the barefoot method!
Lost one with a judo tip in some tall grass the other day. It's hard to lose a judo, but I managed it.
X3 on the bare foot. Found everyone I've ever burried and the kids burry a lot.
I lose a bunch. Pitchfork is the best way I've used to find 'em.

I have too!
Anyone says you can't loose a Judo is wrong!
I shot an arrow in the air. Where it lands I know not where. I loose more arrows that way.
A piece of broom stick or a piece of 1X1 with a nail or long screw through it works wonders on finding arrows buried under the grass.
just rip it through the grass perpendicular to the path of the arrow and you will find it.
I've also trained my labrador to point arrows. I started him with cedar shafts and then once i switched to carbons he quickly picked up on the smell of the fletchings. It's incredible to watch

Worth his weight in Arrows! Good dog!!
I lost 2 this week. I'm a sucker for a grouse in a tree.
John
I have two labs
One could care less about showing me but the other is all about it and find lost arrows for me.
Barefoot
I shot several stumps today & didn't lose an arrow! :saywhat:
If you loose enough arrows, eventually you will lose one...

Ahyup! :bigsmyl:
I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that would find my arrows. A friend had one of her pups and was impressed with my dog, so he used his dog to find arrows. His dog would find the arrow, then chew it up-wood or aluminum. He knew where his arrows were!!!
For 3-d shooting I made up this little arrow scratcher out of an old blunt, some heavy wire tempered, and an old alumimun shaft. I carry it in my quiver along with the other arrows. It works at home too and has saved me and my friends many arrows. Most of my shooting companions carry something similar too.
I do use the barefoot and sock routine in the back yard too. Gets a little cold and wet certain times of the years.
