Title: New Associate Sponsor - "Kathy's soaps"
Post by: BrownA5 on September 09, 2013, 09:09:00 PM
Let me take a moment to introduce myself..... my name is Dan Westgate, and I have been associated with Trad Gang since 2010; first as a member, recently a Contributor and now as an Associate Sponsor.  I have interacted with many of you as BrownA5.   I have been shooting traditional gear on and off since I was 7 years of age (finally gave up the training wheels entirely about 5 years ago).  My wife Kathy and I have home schooled two wonderful kids and now that they have moved out on their own we are both back pursuing our hobbies/side businesses.  For years now I have been working with Kathy as she has been making /experimenting with homemade soaps.  While she has created many varieties, my favorite is her Camouflage Bar, which we are offering here on Trad Gang.  I have used this soap for many years as a body wash and also to wash my hunting clothes, and it works not only as a cleansing agent, but also as an effective cover scent.  Each bar is made of saponified olive, coconut, and palm oils, anise powder, avocado oil, oak moss, and fir essential oil.  Each bar is 4+ounces in weight.

Come see us under the Sponsor Classified's!

Hey Dan. Is it possible we met you at the Farmer's Market in Oswego a month or so ago?

Jim, I haven't been to Oswego in a number of years.  I did live there a two separate times in my life.  Were you in NY state touring or visiting family?

Visiting my son and grand daughters. My wife and I had a week up there by the Lake with them. We bought some items at a mid-week farmer's market, homemade soap being one.

Jim, good to hear.  NY is a great place to visit... quite a diverse state.  I love the lake region.  Great hunting and fishing!  Sorry I did not get a chance to meet you and your family.

Have a great hunting season and maybe we will get the chance to connect up again!

Dan

I currently have 8 camo bars pre-ordered.  Soap will be ready for shipment October 5th.  Bars of soap need to cure for at least three weeks!

Gary, your soap is in the mail.  You should see it Monday.  Let me know how you like it; or at least how good it makes you smell!

More to come!!!

Thanks all!

Bud, you ask the question about laundry powder.  I am not sure we can do that, but I will never say never!  My wife is pretty creative.  What I can tell you is that I take approximately 1/2 bar of the camo soap and shred it using a cheese grater into a Pyrex cup.  I then pour hot water over the grated soap to dissolve it.  This can then be poured into a washing machine (regular or He) and I use it to wash all my hunting clothes, including wool.  Easy on the clothes; easy on the skin; no brightners to scare the game and you are ready for the hunt!

Thanks all for the kind comments.  We continue to make more.  Hopefully soon my wife will have the Facebook page that can be linked to and we can show several varieties of soap, along with the camo.

Speaking of which, there are five bars of soap available from this second batch.  Sales have been good!  Will have to get another batch underway....
