Saying thank you to someone, to some people it is so habitual it sometimes seems to me like it's just expected and the reaction is predictable.
I thought about that last night because of one of these posts I responded to.
So I called the man, not my father but an uncle that was responsible for making me who I am today in this great sport, traditional archery. After telling him how much I appreciated his support and guidance as a child and how much I loved him for doing that, I could hear his voice start to crack and he could hardly speak as I went on. I told him how much I admired him and looked up to him for being a mentor to me, I said he is the best man I know and the most unselfish hunter I have ever met, I hope one day I could teach my son what kind of a man my uncle Charlie is by living as an example. My uncle had to give the phone to my aunt Mary as he could not talk, my aunt Mary said he fell to his knees and sobbed. I just wanted to share this with everyone because I believe the best gift we can give to someone we love and respect is a simple thank you and ,for sharing the gift of shooting a simple bow and arrow.sometimes its just over looked but not this time.

Kudos to uncle Charlie for being a fine man. Thank you for sharing with your other family, my Brother.
I'm glad you did that. I'm sure it made his day and will be even more important to you some day later on. Life is shorter than we think and it's a shame to wish we had said "thank you" when it's too late.
I read the post earlier and was impressed. Both you and your fine uncle get it. I applaud you both :clapper: :clapper:
Kudos to the both of you and may God continue to bless you and your loved ones....

Thanks everyone, My uncle has not been hunting for the last couple of years due to health reasons but I can tell you, he knows he is with me sitting in that tree. I think of him often sitting there.
when I was twelve he was sitting with me in a tree stand he had made back before manufactured stands. He gave me the training and tried to prepare me as best he could to deal with the challenges hunting wild game would bring. A few doe were working their way into our setup. As the deer got closer he was whispering in my ear giving me the instruction like so many of us have done to the little ones trying to learn to be a predator, as natural as it is for us to want to succeed in harvesting our prey we learn just like all predators do by making mistakes. And when the upper limb of my bow moved, brushed something or just made a slight noise the deer became aware of our presence, they looked up and saw two boogiemen sitting in that tree (well one and a half boogiemen anyway) they were gone my arrow in the dirt, I was heart broken and my uncle simply said I'm glad you gave them a chance, next time they are in trouble. He was so happy and excited, he made me feel like I had just won the super bowl. I will never forget his teaching and how gentle my Uncle Charlie's mannerism was. He is a good man, and a great uncle.

Glad to hear that he took the time to be that kind of man for you!
Good on you for taking the time to tell him
I needed something like this today and you just made my day.
Thank You
What you did is hard for a lot of men, myself included. Some never give thanks in time before the ones they are grateful for depart this world. Good for you and to share your logic with your son would be doing him a great service. Gratitude is important.
Moving tribute Bruce! Thanks.
Acorns don't fall far from the tree. Big bunch of good in you too. Wear it w/pride & honor.
I'm going t share with you a quote about the above response it's very true and powerful and ties in wih this...
Time is a sneaky bastard that steals from you the things you don't yet know are important... ( think about that)
