Title: Horsebow arrow spine
Post by: fafnir on September 04, 2013, 09:32:00 PM
I'm going to start shopping for wood/bamboo shafts for my Kassai mongol bow.  I've read on several sites that the ideal spine for a mongol style bow will be 10 lbs. less than that of a recurve bow of the same draw weight.  Although I've read it, I've never seen an explanation as to why...does anyone have an answer?

Thanks.

 (Spine fixed...)

fafnir,

Welcome to Trad Gang!  You will get better answers for this question on the Pow Wow.  This is a shooting FORM section.

That said, it is SPINE not SPLINE.

A horse bow usually does not have a shelf cut into it... so a lighter spine is needed for the arrow to go around the handle this is why a lighter spine is recommended.

Sorry about the typo on spine.  I had just finished re-screening my florida room, and the material used to hold the screen in the aluminum frames is "spline"...

fafnir, welcome. I believe moebow meant, go to the main forum and look for the shooters forum, you will get a lot better response there.

I was just running the numbers for my Kaya KTB last night --- Carbon Express Predator 2 800 shafts seemed to be right, though I may re-try w/ the 1000s tonight.

Are there any other carbon shafts w/ ~.800 or ~1.000 spine?
