Well boys and girls, just got in from a week on the mountain. It has been very hot and pretty dry for the beginning of elk season in my neck of the woods, so I started out by checking wallows. In my week there, they were not used, but had been worked previously. While checking this one, I had a cow face to face at under 20 yards on the trail coming to the wallow; no shot however.

This meadow was full of fresh moo cow poop, and the dirty buggers were all over the country, but I was still seeing some elk.

I worked a small stream, thinking that the elk might be as hot as I was, and low and behold, got into about 30 for over an hour and a half. There were at least 5 branch antlered bulls, and I listened to their bugling and the mewing of cows and calves for a long time, until they just walked away. I never was in range of a bull, and the only 'easy' broadside shots that I was offered were a couple of calves, so I passed with hope that a similar situation will present itself later. Here is the stream; it is full of brookies.

The forecast is for more warm weather for the next few days, but I will be heading back mid week and hope that the elk will still be there and maybe rutting. There are worse places to spend some time.

Good luck. You have a beautiful State. I wish I had the hunting opportunities available to the Residents of WY. I have a feeling your going to be taking a "Hero" shot with a camera before long.
Get back after em partner. Im daydreaming about that country.
Izzy, I'm headed back tomorrow; looks like the weather is slightly cooler, so at least the temps will be more pleasant, and maybe the elk will start feeling frisky. I like it when they start to act a bit dumber.
I hope to have photos of a bloody arrow next time.
Good Luck. Awesome photos, beautiful country.
What an Ugly place. I guess I would tolerate being there in your absence if You needed. ;) ;)
Good luck on Round Two, I am looking forward to your bloody arrow.
