I just received word that my good friend and hunting buddy Jerry Simmons of Alabama passed away last night after a long illness. It was expected but still tears at my heart. I loved the man. He was about Dad's age, and like my father, a natural woodsman. I've lost both of my parents this year and now Jerry is gone. I was lucky to have spent many days afield with Jerry, a good man and an extremely witty one. Legendary longbow exhibition shooter Byron Ferguson introduced me to Jerry. I know that Byron is taking this very hard. Prayers for Jerry's wonderful wife and for all who loved him.

... in case you aren't familiar with Jerry Simmons he was the inventor of the Simmons Shark broadheads and many other efficient and well thought out pieces of hunting equipment. He was the best woodsman that I ever knew, hands down ... and keep in mind that I knew Fred Bear, another good and talented man.

Prayers for all

I am so very sorry for your loss and that of the family and friends as well.
Abba please wrap your loving, care, and compassionate arms around those who are hurting from this loss Lord.
Please allow them to feel your presence in a very supernatural way Father.
Whatever blessing are needed, please provide.
I ask this in your son's name. Amen!

Prayers for the Simmons family a friends I will be thinking of Jerry every day I hunt this year with my arrows tipped with 165 land sharks that I bought a long time ago when Jerry was still at the helm . I hope I have success so in a small way I can commemorate his memory.

Very sad to hear.....I met him at the Buckarama in Georgia many moons ago and that meeting changed the way I hunt. He was free with information and was a gem of a guy to talk too, knew his stuff and had perfected some hunting equipment that has stod the test of time. I was hunting just last night, still using a Simmons climbing belt. RIP Jerry.

If I am not mistaken Jerry also invented the Woodpecker Drill that is one of my most treasured pieces of hunting gear. Totally changed the way we hunt ! I can go to woods and hold in one hand, counting my bolts, all I need to climb 20 ft anywhere anytime. God Bless Jerry Simmons and may he rest in peace.

I knew Jerry, talked with him a few times and was in his basement once or twice. He had a lot of old and very neat archery stuff there.
He was a kind and friendly man. We will all miss him.

We have lost a good man! Jerry was a bow hunting pioneer. Had the good fortune of hunting with him. In mid 90's as a sales rep sold Simmons Products. Best known for broadheads, his other items included an enclosed bow quiver, climbing belt, the woodpecker drill, 2nd chance arrow holder, bdhd sharpener, trail markers and tape. Truly an icon in our sport. Condolences to the Simmons family.

Mr. Simmons had been battling illness for a while. I didn't realize the severity of his condition till I spoke with Big Dave via fb. When I think of my beloved Alabama, Mr. Simmons always comes to mind. God bless the Simmons family. I will keep them in prayer.

I first contacted Jerry when I was president of our State's traditional archery organization here in Alabama in the late 90's.
Jerry generously agreed to be a Target Sponsor for our State shoot and was a good friend to traditional archery.
He'll be missed.

Last evening on my way back from my hide, the luminous stars facilitated both travel and navigation.
Noticed an intense radiant star shimmering that instantaneously dove and travelled much distance with ever diminishing brightness until fully extinguished. Then found myself reaching into my pack to retrieve a light in order to discern my way.
An offering of prayers for Mr. Jerry Simmons, family and friends and a blessing for all those many lives of whom Mr. Simmons had touched.
-
He sounds like a good man. Prayers and condolences.

Jerry, me, and my rain soaked bear on a drizzly fall morning in Canada. One of many bears and assorted critters I took with his broadheads.

(L-R) Me, Fred Pape, Jerry Simmons, and Byron Ferguson 20 years ago on our first bear hunt together. Sharing a camp with Jerry was like no other. It was always a learning experience ... not to mention the free entertainment he provided with his unique wit and practical jokes.
