Hey all,
A while back I recall seeing a post with some pics of a Hill bow that had an Ebony riser with black glass on the belly and back and a white grip. I thought it was a great looking bow. I guess it's a pretty rare thing as I haven't seen any other pics of a Hill style like it since.
I'm wondering if anyone else has a "Blacked Out" Hill bow or if this was a firearms forum it would be called a "TACTICAL BOW." I guess it doesn't have to be all black to count.
Do you think a bow with this scheme looks good or not? Would you own one? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this style of bow. I'd also really like to see some pics of other BLACKED OUT bows including HILL Bows.
I also wonder how an Ebony riser with WHITE glass on the belly would look. Any ideas on that?

I just picked up a Big River Hill bow that used to belong to Lamont Granger, RIP, its not totally blacked out- white belly black back, black phenolic riser- I've nicknamed it the tuxedo bow. I also just ordered a new heavy Hill bow, 100@30 70" from Nate at Bamabows, his new Tribute model, I'm doing a wenge riser, black glass and black phenolic tips...it's gonna be called the Werewolf. Can't wait. 4 months away.
I'll post pics of the 'tuxedo' Big River soon as I can.
Nala, if you think it will look sweet I say go for it. It's your bow and going "tactical" will give it that truly custom feel. Like you said you don't see many pictures of blacked-out Hills, so you might have the only one. I think it's a cool idea.
A blacked-out Hill "Badger", Craig's non-catalog R/D longbow is pictured in this thread. I really like it. Black glass belly/back with a Gaboon Ebony riser. Hope this helps.

Here's my favorite hill forward handle. Ebony riser, carbon/ yew core, black glass.. Smooth and stealthy!

The "blacked-out" Hill started out being called a Black Bear -- ebony riser and carbon on the back. Black glass on the belly.
Nala, Here is an all black sunbear.Ebony riser, black glas front and back. (http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s296/GregD_photos/005_zps0e5f794f.jpg) (http://s155.photobucket.com/user/GregD_photos/media/005_zps0e5f794f.jpg.html)
Beautiful stuff.
Now that you mention it, one of the bows I do recall being all black was a carbon Hill that someone got that was a BLACK BEAR. It might've had a silver bear paw inlay in it too. There have been a couple others I have seen over the years here.
Thanks all.

Here's the first "Black Bear" Wesley Special. Dick Wightman's site is a fantastic resource if you're into Hill-style longbows.

Not a very good pic, but the top Hill is all bl (http://d.pictureupload.us/1729101481522c418a1dd72.jpg) (http://www.pictureupload.us) ack.
Make that the bottom bow :knothead:
THAT picture says "TRADITIONAL"!! :clapper:
I've never had a black Hill bow like Knawbone's, but wow, that Farmall brings back memories.
Not all blacked out, but except for the silver elk inlay, elk antler riser and tip overlays and the bamboo, I guess this one of mine qualifies.

Nice Wesley for sure!
Nala,
Here's the 'new to me' Big River I was talking about. Belonged to Lamont Granger. Phenolic riser, black glass back, white glass belly- the 'tux' bow haha. Sweet shooter and superb craftsmanship, some of the best I've seen:
