Hey all,
I am thinking of a Hill style but I want the grip slightly larger than what normally comes on them if nothing is specified.
I'd like some help from you guys that have Hill styles that you ordered with larger grips. Could you please post some pics of your bow with grip details? I'd like to get an idea of what to expect and what they look like.
I already have some pics saved up because I knew I would want to do this at some point, but i don't have much data to go with them. That might make it kinda hard when it comes to ordering.
SO, it would be great if you all could help me out with this bit of info.

I don't have any pics but I have my Hill style bow grips made from 2 1/8" to 2 1/4" deep. It is very important to get the depth right for you. I can shoot my larger grips much better than the smaller 2" generic grips. Most handles unless specified are made for average size hands.I like for my handle depth to be so that my 2nd joint fits the front corner of the grip. I heard Nate who builds Sunsethills has you send him a trace pic of your hand and he builds your grip according to what size should be best. Some guys like small grips and shoot them better even if their hands are large. If you can't find a bow with a large handle to shoot the only way to know if you like them is to try one. You can always trim them down some if they are to large for your liking. It's hard to add to a grip.
Thanks for that info. That's what I am thinking, if I get one that's too big I can always take material away and get it to where it fits perfect.

2 3/8" deep with a 5 3/4" circumference, slight wedge is sweet. It'll force you to hold it right.

You can build up the handle, with skived leather under the handle, or a full wrap. I have used two wraps of leather and you could not see the first. There are many ways to build up a handle, including using strategically placed painters tape on the wood, under the leather. The handle can be made deeper without adding to the width. The options are limitless.

That Shrew Hill grip was built to fit my hand. It's a little longer and deeper than standard, but I don't remember the specs exactly.
If you do need to go with a larger grip, make sure they build it so that the amount of working limb remains the same. That will mean steeper sweeps. If they just lengthen the riser, you'll likely need to go with a longer overall length. That Shrew Hill fit my hand perfectly, but, unfortunately, at full draw the string angle was right at, or a little past, 90* for me. If my draw had been an inch shorter, it would have been perfect.

The bow on the left, the Shrew Hill, fit my hand perfectly. The middle bow was okay, but I like a straight grip better. The bow on the right, has a very small grip. I built it up with some layers of leather and wrapped it with leather thong. It is still too short, as my hand completely overlaps the leather. I've shot it so much that I'm accustomed to it, but I do have to make sure the front edge of my fletching is glued down tight (having a feather slice into your hand hurts). It also precludes me from using a glove on that bow hand.
Oddly enough, the bow on the right is my main hunting bow. One of these days I'll get around to ordering another with a grip that fits me.

Kim sha, H.H wesley, Dave Johnson,the D.J. is the biggest and best for me,2 1/4 x 4 1/4 x 5 3/4 circumference. Burt
I own a 2 1/4", and just purchased a HH that measures 2 3/8". I shoot a bigger grip much better than the standard 2", but that 2 3/8" might be too big a grip. We'll see.

Larry, my hand measures 8.5" from tip of finger to base of plam and 4.3" across the palm. Here are some of the specs on the grip size I like on a hill style bow.

One Hill I recall is in the HUGE Hill thread and it has white glass on it with greyish handle wrap. It too is over 2 inches, I think that's what the owner posted, I can't recall exactly though.
I'd like to see more pics of that bow, full length and exact numbers.
The Johnson bows look like they all have larger grips as do the Shrew Hills. Those are the grips I think I would prefer more.
