Today while shooting my bow, I thought I would try out some of the broadheads i have in my archery box. I tried various heads such as magnus, zwickie, other two blade heads, slick tricks, 3 blade muzzy's, shwackers.
I noticed that some of the heads like the muzzy, slick trick, magnus(wide cutting)were all very loud while in flight and the larger head(magnus) would some times plane off and hit unpredictably.
Is there anything I should know about shooting broadheads? How do you make them quieter in flight?
When shooting broad heads it is important that your set up is really in tune. I live in Monroe as well and would be happy to help you out
Your arrows are more than likely not uned to your bow. Do searches on the site for arrow tuning. see if your arrows are tuned and if not get em. I bet it will make a big differance. It could also be they are not aligned properly. Need spun to check for wobble. There was a good how to on making a homemade job here a while back.
In a word or two I suspect that your arrows are borderline on spine.
Vented heads are louder. As others have stated spine is off or borderline.
The arrows aren't flying bad at all(with the exception of the huge magnus head). All of the smaller heads are flying great, they are just making a good bit of noise. I can hear them all the way to the target.
Daniel even the magnus head should fly absolutely fine if your arrows are in tune. For example I shoot 4 blade Zwickey Deltas and they fly like a laser beam. I recommend checking your arrow spine and tune by shooting some bareshafts in with a group of fletched arrows. The best method of tuning I know of can be found here http://www.acsbows.com/bowtuning.html
