Title: Cancerous Deer
Post by: Bud B. on August 31, 2013, 09:29:00 AM
The 3D variety. My neighbor gave me this unshot target. He hasn't shot a bow in years and gave this to me earlier in the year. It has been in his shed for 15 or more years. Mice got to it but otherwise I've done all the damage.

I'm trying to extend its life before it's too far gone. I dont shoot it alot, but being old, the foam has gotten crumbly. It probably has less than 200 holes in it.

Hopefully the expanding foam will help it.

I have used foam many times and works great. I like to foam then shrink wrap it until it dries.

Looks like that Buck missed with the shaving cream and shaved his horns off!     The expanding foam was a good Idea Bud, I should have thought of that before I shot my Deer target in half!

Wrap it first in Saran wrap quite a few layers than poke a hole stick in foam and spray til 2/3 full than let foam expand and harden. Than peel of saran wrap. Works nice on large holes and you do not get the cancer look! Shawn

This one was intact, but this was a preventative measure. I tried filling the holes from arrows. Single holes. The target foam has lost its elasticity and when an arrow is pulled it leaves a tunnel. I wanted to get it before the large hole developed.

I think in a thread a while back someone posted about taking the old vital areas out when they were shot up and then buying one of those cheap yoga blocks from Target or ?? to replace it. I think they rough cut it to shape and then glued it into the cavity. The foam on those blocks is great and might make a perfect replacement if you need it. I think they run about $10!!

Sounded good at the time.

It`s GREAT to see a guy that shoots so much that his targets are torn up and are in need of repairs.

Not too many bowhunters do that these days...I am willing to bet that when you see a torn up target, there is a trad bow in the hou  :campfire:  se.

Wrapping the target area in Saran Wrap prior to spraying the foam will save you some shaving and shaping ...mine still stops arrows just fine after several foam fillings....good luck!

Mine just had tumors growing on it too.
It should hold up for at least until bow season this fall.
