Timmy (Tim - next door neighbors adult son) and I have been having shooting sessions, as we can get together, and have got probably 10 or 12 under our belts now. Yesterday (with Rose's help) we moved some of the targets around before our session. Moved the big buck out of this lane and moved li'l Bucky forward a tad and more into the center of the lane. Also moved the pig over and forward a tad.

Now they both can be seen (and shot at) better, and you have to thread the needle's eye a little to hit the pig in the kill zone.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/Shtng002_zpsab4c15e8.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/Shtng002_zpsab4c15e8.jpg.html)
We moved one of the bag deer tgts over between the other two deer (to make a small deer grouping).
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/Shtng003_zps5eede0b7.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/Shtng003_zps5eede0b7.jpg.html)
And we moved the big Buck to the B side of the range and made him a Doe (his antlers made it hard to shoot at the deer and pig to the right). Gotta knock that rotted stump behind her down a little more.

Timmy is getting his form down pretty tight now and improving on his shooting with each session (as am I - it makes us more aware when teaching - LOL)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/Shtng005_zpsc955e3a1.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/Shtng005_zpsc955e3a1.jpg.html)
A close-up of Tim. He is really into his shooting and our sessions, and chatter about trad shooting and hunting (also, as am I).

Thank you, Bud, and top of the marnnin to you as well.
This is my new Hammock Seat that arrived today, and we decided to try that out as well. (I strapped it to the same tree my loc-on stand is in, so that is what the extra straps and ladder are.) It's carry bag is on the ladder there. For those interested The seat is from Simply Traditional, a trad arcery supplier and fellow member (plus sponsor) here on TradGang.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr001_zpsef51c3dc.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr001_zpsef51c3dc.jpg.html)
So here I am - waiting for a deer to come along - all comfy in my Hammock seat.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr002_zps333c2769.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr002_zps333c2769.jpg.html)
I spy one, pivot a little to the right and take careful aim.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr003_zps5ab214d0.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr003_zps5ab214d0.jpg.html)
Here I am after the shot and i must admit I'm gloating over the first shot out of my new chair.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr004_zps0bbabca6.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr004_zps0bbabca6.jpg.html)
And Here is the shot/hit. I'll take that on an angling away shot.

(Two more pics to come)

Great pics
I have the hammock seat too.
Really like it
Hope I am as successful out of as you were!
-
Got Tim to sit in the chair to check the comfort on a larger man. He was quite pleased and relaxed.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr006_zpsf78985ab.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr006_zpsf78985ab.jpg.html)
Tim drew for me, and to check it out for himself. He didn't shoot though, as he had already stowed his tab and arm guard. We were both quite impressed with the Hammock Seat, as I was when I first heard about it and saw a video of it in use on youtube.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr007_zps0c199072.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/ShtngHamChr007_zps0c199072.jpg.html)
Thanks for looking and hope you enjoyed it. We certainly did, as we do all our practice sessions.
-
Thank you, Wolfshead for the added info. I find the seat very comfortable, and not only lightweight to carry (One lb. +) but easy to shoot out of.
-
Good morning, Bernie. Nice set up, I hope to shoot there someday.
Tom
-
Hey, Tom - good to hear from you again, and I hope that comes to pass as well.
-
Good Morning Bernie. Great pics as always.
Glad to see Your shooting and enjoying Yourself. I like the looks of Your hammock seat might have to check them out.
Have a great weekend and keep shooting!!
bretto
-
Thanks so much, bretto. I've used a lot of different seats (including just the thin cushion of a turkey vest) and liked them all - at the time. However, as I get older - comfort and ease of carry (and use) becomes more important. This one seems to fill the bill the best so far. I dearly hope I will be able to keep shooting right up to the end - I love it, and love watching the arc of the arrow, no matter who is shooting.
-
I noticed that I really blurred (I think it's an age thing - LOL)the pic of the moved "big buck/become doe". I took camera (and hatchet) in hand and went out the door and hacked the stump down (piece of cake) and took another pic:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/Shtng013_zps36d34f39.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/Shtng013_zps36d34f39.jpg.html)
(Looks much better, don't you think?)
-
Thanks so much for the shout out Bernie!! I really appreciate it! The response on orders for Hammock Seats the past few weeks has been great!!!
One thing I notice looking the the photos you posted, if I can offer you some advice.
To make the seat more comfortable and stable. Once you have the seat attached to the tree and the center pole in place against the tree. When you go to sit in the seat. Reach behind yourself with both hands and pull the sides of the seat out as you ease down into the seat. This will cause the seat to wrap around your hips and make for a much more comfortable experience. If I can I will get my daughter to take some photos this weekend and post them here.
So glad you are happy with the seat!!! Please tell your friends, we have more of them!! :)
-
My pleasure, Steve. and glad to hear that it's doing well. It seems to be a good and well-made product. I did read (and do) that but perhaps not ass much as can be done. I'll concentrate on that a little more - makes sense to me. If you do get pics, please post them, I'm sure others would be interested also.
-
Yes please post pictures!
I have set mine up and sat in it but have not had a chance to shoot out of it yet. (I live in the suburbs and the neighbors don't take kindly to shooting towards them :scared: )
Got to get up north to test the seat out.
I love what I have experienced so far, great product!
-
I will do so this weekend. Need the help of my lovely assistant to take the photos. She is not home from school till after 4pm. :)
-
Ah yes, the errant arrow - sometimes I have a quiver full!
Great looking setup and good to hear that you and your shooting partner are helping each other improve.
I'm interested in the seat as well, looks good.
-
I've gotta order one of these. Steve is a great guy and knows hunting. He loves them and has been talking them up to me awhile now. He doesn't sell anything at Simply Traditional he doesn't stand behind.
These photos make me want one even more!!! I think you just sealed the deal for me.
-
Good luck to you, Bernie!
I am worried about deer season for me. I got that thunder maker from the auction and it is always thundering around here now! :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Bisch
-
Looks like you guys are having some fun for sure! Nice set up..
-
Glad to see you out and about, uncle Bernie.
I need to get in geart and get the old bones wrapped around the bow and string and fling a few myself!
Take car and keep on keeping on!
Johnny/JAG
-
I am outrageously jealous of this setup. Just sayin'.
-
Thanks for the looks and comments, guys. They mean a great deal to this ol' hoss.
Glad to hear more interest in the Hammock Seat (I don't get anything out of it), as I love to tout anything I find that I really think is worthwhile, as most of you have seen me do in the past with various items. I will never say I like something that isn't really good in my personal opinion.
Gotta watch that random "Thunder", Bish - :biglaugh: (You may have to hide it during the hunting season ;) )
-
Also noticed this bag deer was "too tall" so I flipped the cement blocks down and retied it. That also makes the blocks a little less inviting a target for those "errant arrows" - LOL.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/ber643%20Misc/Shtng014_zps81c584f2.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/ber643%20Misc/Shtng014_zps81c584f2.jpg.html)

More pics, straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. As soon as Steve can get his daughter, and "lovely assistant", to take some pics of him and the Hammock Seat, or vice versa - so keep checking back. :clapper:
-
You certainly have a target rich environment!
-
I do, I have been blessed over the years with the opportunities to buy good, second hand 3D targets. The only new one I've ever bought was bag tgts, on sale after the season, and L'il Bucky that my wife bought me for my Birthday 2 or 3 years ago. He's really catching his share of arrows now that we moved him. I think Tim has a love affair going on with him - he keeps remembering my earliest admonition of the old adage, "Aim small, miss small", and says it often - LOL.
-
Great stuff Bernie...! Is that a Bob Lee bow you are using...???? Its very nice....LOve those dark bows...! Nice to have a shooting partner who's as enthusiastic as yourself....keep shootin'.....John
-
What a cool place to shoot!
-
Thanks, y'all. My bow is my Anneewakee Addiction from John Dill, made by Lee Hoots, a 54" recurve that I call "Blackie".
Today at the Flea market I found anther of those bargain second-hand targets. The guy had been using it for his BB target so it was in great shape - 4 bulls on one side, one large bull on the other. I looked it over, asked the lady what they were asking. She said, "Make me an offer." I grimaced and told her, "I don't really want to do that as I don't want to insult you." She snorted a laugh and said, "How about two dollars, I just want to get rid of it." I couldn't help but laugh, knowing what targets cost. I gave her a twenty and told her to just give me fifteen back, as it was worth five to me. That may sound strange but as I've often said, I've been blessed with finding targets at good prices. Besides those folks have also given us good deals on some of our decoration blow-ups. What goes around comes around, and she was pleased - so was I. Don't know for sure if I'll leave it where it sits but wanted to get it added it to this pictorial.

now that looks way cool uncle Bernie it almost makes me want to come on over to your place and shoot some. :clapper: :clapper: :biglaugh:
-
Thanks for the pics, makes me wanna grab my selfbow and go shoot some more.
-
Ha-ha, thank you Jeff. "That Man" used to be the masked Loan Arranger, but I truly hated working for a loan company so I quit, threw my mask away, and became the much happier ber643.
Thanks, David - I also have "exercised" many a self bow on various configurations of my range. It is such a pleasure to be able to walk out the door any time I have the urge and "shoot a few".
-
Looks like you're ready for deer season. It was good to see you at the flea market while me and the wife were at the beach...Small world isn't it!
-
It is, Wally, and it surprised the devil out of me. Such a pleasure to see and talk with you and Joyce there. Especially since we hadn't got the chance at the last Sissipahaw shoot. When you tapped me on the shoulder it was like turning around and seeing an apparition. Almost left me speechless for a minute there - if you can imagine that - LOL
-
mmmm i can't imagine that   who said that
-
Ber, can't you get the catepillars off your string? I had a few hunts at CLNC when I wasn't deployed. Coastal NC is a great place to hunt. Is the range at CLNC still in use?
-
They seem to have taken up permanent residence there, Rk. At least they haven't been getting together to propagate though - LOL. They do still have an archery range (and club) at Lejeune but they moved to a new area. It is now located close to the side gate (at Piney Green Rd.) It now (I understand) also incorporates a skeet range and something else as I recall. They say it's real nice but I haven't been to it. I hunted the base for a few years but they got a new Conservation Officer in (from CA) and he had some of his own (West Coast) ideas and changed so many rules and regs I haven't been back for hunting. Still go for Meds, PX, etc. but just haven't driven by the range/club yet. They are doing so much road work on base you never know where you can go from one time to another - LOL. Gonna be nice when they finish though, and keeps a lot of folks employed I'd guess.
-
This is not going to be a very "exciting hunt" pictorial, I'm afraid but hopefully you'll find some enjoyment in it. For Tim and myself, the pictures represent many great memories for us of Tim's first traditional bow hunt and first ever full blown hunt away from his home area here in Coastal NC This is our campsite within the Primitive Hunters Camp in one of the Piedmont area State Game Lands.

Timmy, in his tent, happily prepares for the first evening's hunt:

I was trying to get a shot of the campsite at night and saw this "light area" - which turned out to be only one of my coolers - LOL. (Tim's chair and a radio he borrowed from Rose - in case he got tired of listening to me):

After our last evening sit, we had to return in the AM to retrieve the (larger) chair Tim borrowed from me to replace his small chair. We stopped to take pics of our previous eve's stand sites. This large tree was mine. I have a handy seat that clamps onto any tree of my choice.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/0313/ber643b/But009_zpsb7f60de6.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/0313/ber643b/But009_zpsb7f60de6.jpg.html)
A frontal view of the same spot. It was really just too hot in the daytime for the deer to do much walking. Very few folks we talked to even saw any deer - except at night. We still had a great time and saw a lot of three friends of mine from our old archery club on the coast - who also became friends with Tim. I honestly think Tim had the time of his life - and I enjoyed seeing that, as well as the whole time in general:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/0313/ber643b/But010_zps85f889ae.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/0313/ber643b/But010_zps85f889ae.jpg.html)
Tim had set his chair in a good spot on a creek side and viewing grassy patches throughout the woods ahead of him. He saw five deer come into those patches - but too far to shoot at. He also saw one that headed towards me - but she never showed up there. He watched the deer for about a half hour (learning much about trad archery and the opportunities it offers). If he had happened to go just a little further before settling in, he'd have had a shot. Stuff happens - but it is so nice just to watch/observe the deer:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/0313/ber643b/But011_zps1345c87c.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/0313/ber643b/But011_zps1345c87c.jpg.html)
A frontal pic, while Tim remembers visions of his big evening before we return to camp to pack up:

A zoomed pic of the area Tim was lucky enough to be viewing. He vows to return - LOL:

Tim by a pretty pool on the creek, between our sites:

I contemplate part of the same pool and spot trails for future reference:

This is our camp neighbors, Kate (Khatja) Dufour, Scott Burgess and there cat "Sis" - coming to me to get some more friendly petting. Kate is trying to call their other busy little traveling/camping mate, "Mr.Buns", out from under things to share in the photo op. Such a nice, friendly, intelligent and knowledgeable couple - a true pleasure to meet and befriend them:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/0313/ber643b/But016_zps538794ba.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/0313/ber643b/But016_zps538794ba.jpg.html)
Mr. Buns is out (yes, he's a bunny) and Scott has broken out the secret weapon to hold his interest for the pics - a small bag of potato chips - LOL (he also loves raisins and will come running for those at the rattle of the bag):
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v689/ber643/0313/ber643b/But017_zps0f1024f9.jpg~original) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ber643/media/0313/ber643b/But017_zps0f1024f9.jpg.html)
Mr. Buns sits pretty for the chips, of his own accord, while Sis walks away in disdain - LOL. Enjoyed these folks and their pets so much - while we all laughed about a pet bunny (and cat) in a "Hunter's Primitive Campsite":

This is the beautiful Lake Holt Reservoir, just down the road from our camping area. We had visited it one day and returned after packing up, as I wanted to get pics before we left for home. (Note to self - take fishing rods on next visit - LOL) They also have a boat ramp (for a small fee):

The facilities at the lake - they serve a great little steak and cheese sub there, sell bait, etc.:

now thats what i call style right there uncle Bernie :scared:
-
That looks like you had a bunch of fun! Great trip!
-
Tanks, guys. It was a great trip - fun, fun, fun - except for the chiggers/red bugs, as Jeff pointed out. They ate me up. Tim got a couple tick bites but no chiggers. I forgot to mention that detraction but I had told Jeff about it on SKYPE, because he had an experience with them when he came to the states for a hunt a couple or so years back. I found some ointment (non-greasy) in WalMart that seems to work well, called "ChiggerX"

Looks like a great Time Bernie! Thanks for taking us along.

My pleasure, Charlie. :)

Tim and I got out to scout a new place to hunt a couple days ago. Found a good possibility, and had a great time. Then we returned to my home range and had an outstanding shooting practice, topping a good day off with Rose's delicious Chicken and Dumplin's. Hopefully there will be pictures from an enjoyable hunt in the near future.
In the meantime, another good session yesterday:
Time to do a little more to get ready for our upcoming hunt. First we put some Copperhead Skinsations (from Onestringer - TG Sponsor) on Tim's bow for him, like he's been wanting me to. Then we set his hunting arrows up with some Tree Shark broadheads, so we could see if they'd fly right for him.

A little closer look - way to focus, Tim.

Results are looking good out to 20 yards. So we switched back to field points for more practice for both of us.

Tim took over the camera and got a shot or two of the ol' man. Oh, The Mukluks are because I have a bad corn that i'm treating and they are the only thing my foot is comfortable in for now.

Rose came out and took a couple pics of Tim and I together, that he has been wanting for his boat. (Hmmmm - that may be for target practice too LOL)

And a pic of us taking a draw at the same time. another good practice session today. Hunt will hopefully take place next week. Hope to at least get pics of our set-ups to post here, at that time (and if things work out, maybe more).
