Hey guys. I hunt a lot of squirrels and rabbits. I have been wanting to donate something to the st Jude auction but being hideously broke doesn't help much. Anyway I was wondering how many fly fishermen we have here and if there would be any interest in lots of natural and dyed tails for lures. I usually have quite a few. I figure 5-6 lots of 5 each both natural and dyed......may tan and post a few other furs too....have a few coons ect. Anyway post up if an item like this would interest you.
sounds good to me.....
ANYTHING like that will bring a few bucks....
Creative donations...that's the mind set I try to get across to folks....it ALL adds up!!!
Great idea but don't stop only on rabbit tails. You know that rabbit fur on the hide cut into strips make great subsurface flies. Lots of guys use "hare's ear" to dub thread to make nymphs, but I'm not sure if domestic rabbit ears are the same as hare's ears as most of those are imported.
I would love the opportunity to buy some black or red squirrel tails. We only have grey ones here.
Im not sure if this post will be allowed but I have an idea.
A while ago I saw a post on another site saying Mepps lures purchased squirrel tails. Since I only take a few squirrels a year it does not make sense for me to keep a few tails at 8 cents a tail (red fox squirrels). I don't know of anyone who actually take enough squirrels to make money. BUT if people put their tails in for charity we together could make St. Jude some money.
Here is the link to the Mepps site.

Any type of squirrel, rabbit, deer, or elk hair is useful. Even if somebody couldn't tie the more popular patterns a bunch of hair tied to a hook makes what's called the 10 second fly and its lethal. Plus it's for a good cause so I say put them all up!
Even though I have more fly tying material than I could ever use right now, post me in for $5 when you add your St Judes squirrel tails next spring. It's now guaranteed to make some money :) tippit
