How sharp are Magnus Stingers/Buzz Cut's out of the package? Shaving sharp? Anyone hunt with them straight from the package? Whats the best way to sharpen them?
Thanks!
Shane
I used the 150 grain 4 blade Stingers last year for the first time. Had 2 complete pass-thrus on the two deer I shot with a 49# recurve. Stingers were right out of the package.
I've used them strait from the pack with good results, always well sharpened and ready to go. They fly great too.
You can hunt with them right out of the pack. I always strop them a little first, but that's just me.
AND They Fly Great Too! :archer:
Replaceable blades if they do get dull

This is what I do also! Magnus also sells a very inexpensive sharpener called an " All Sharp" the carbide blades in it are set to the right angle for Stinger heads and it's very easy to use. You don't need it for the new ones, but works good to get the blade back after you have shot it.
Shaving sharp right out the pack and fly great too. Shot some yesterday

Sme here.
Do you guys that strop feel like there is a good deal of improvement, or do you do it more for peace of mind?
Just takes off any curls that may occur in the package. I guess I have never really done a before and after with them.
I also strop them and CAREFULLY add a light touch of oil for protection in the field.

I feel there is significant improvement and it makes me feel better and it's easy!

DANG SHARP! :archer2:
I've been shooting the new Stinger Killer Bee, 125gr, and they shaved the hair right off the back of my hand, straight from the package.
So how do you resharpen the Buzz Cuts?

It took me a bit, but I finally got around to sharpening one I missed a deer with last year. I used the All Sharp and stropped the crap out of it. The way the serrations are made, they get sharp just by removing material on the one side of the bevels. Sure took a whole lot more work than sharpening a new one but I got it shaving sharp.
You can sharpen them on a stone or jewel stick like any other head.
Personally I would skip the Buzz-cuts and get the straight blades, those suckers are sharp. Good Head!
This is good to know. I'm using the 150 grain 4 blades for the first time this year and I can't sharpen to save my life.
They are all good. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Try a KME sharpener, with some good diamonds stones you can take a stinger/buzzcut way past shaving sharp! I've certainly seen a difference since going this route several years ago.

They are sharp enough to hunt effectively right out of the package but I sharpen mine more anyway. Ever since I learned how to sharpen knives to where they can literally split a human hair lengthwise, I've had an obsession with my sharp things staying SHARP.

The best I can do is get them duller so I don't mess with them until after I shoot through something. :saywhat:
Ready to go right out of the package
Wicked sharp out of the package.
Very sharp - I just bought 3 packs, will be using the 125 grain 2 blade for Elk.

The 100 and 125 grain you can sharpen with an Accusharp. It won't work on the 150's because the blade is the same size as the 125's but with a larger ferrel to get the weight up.The Accusharp won't clear the ferrel on the 150. I use a little pocket carbide sharpener for those. Sharp out of the pack but I always strop them first. Killed critters with all three sizes, great heads.
