Are you guys familiar with the bottoms on bean boots or schnees? i wondered how the chain type treads are for walking around in? see like they would be slippery?
i am used to regular aggressive tread boots, whats your preference or thoughts?

This is just my opinon on the areas i personally hunt. I tend to lean more towards less agressive tread patterns now. teh more aggressive ones hold mud, then mud dries and falls from my treestand eveytime i move my feet. That mud that falls hits the leaves and makes a ton of noise. Also aggressive patterns hold mud and make them heavy and slippery. my hip boots i have are chain link tread and i love them! I have never noticed them being even remotely slippery. never thought about it...but if i did think they were slippery for whatever reason i would of remebered.
Again this is just my observations in my terrain and situations. but its something to think about.

I have both types of soles and the chain type is definately slippier but also much quieter which is why i wear them 80% of the time. My lug soles only come out when the weather gets really wet or I know i'm gonna be hunting some real uneven terrain.

I used Beans for many years but Schnees have way better traction but are still quiet.The Schnees don't have lug soles so shouldn't be compared to them.They are bobbed and the rubber is not hard and stiff.For that reason it is quiet,the bobs offer some cushioning and great traction.The Schnees also give better support.For the record,I used about 3 different models of Beans for about 20 years and have 2 different Schnee models,now,slightly over 19 years.Quality is better on the Schnees as well,compared to current manufacture Beans.
In the Fall and Winter here,Schnees are a common sight with ranchers,hunters,game wardens,biologists and outfitters.

Finding my buddy back at the cabin at 8 am. I asked him why he was not out hunting. "Got tired of falling down", was his reply. New bean boots and an inch of fresh snow did him in. I love air bobs.

Thanks guys! Never owned the tire tread. But I have owned he schnees with air bob treads. I never had a problem with them other than the schnees arctics being very heavy.
I didn't know if the other tread offered better feel

If you have steep hills you need to traverse I would stick with a more aggressive sole. If not I would recommend the less aggressive chain tread. I have three pairs and like them because when it is wet and muddy the tread doesn't gather mud and get it all over my treestand platform and steps as LB_hntr says.

A couple comments. I agree with the others. Bean's chain soles can be slippery but are pretty darn comfortable for early fall. I have had three pairs of boots with air-bob soles and they are all great for the terrain they were designed for but they are not all equal in all conditions.
My Danner Elk Hunters with air-bobs are fantastic for rough ground, rock, side hills, etc. but are NOT for snow as the bobs are too hard and can get slippery. My Schnees are great for snow and other slippery conditions as are my LaCrosse Icemans.

I've used both brands a lot and wouldn't buy another pair of ll bean boots. Too slippery on wet leaves, inclines or snow.

They are tools. You don't use a 1/4" wrench on a 1/2" bolt. Nothing sneaks like a Bean boot. Bean boots don't do so well on steeper inclines.
Rough tread gets me up the hills, but unless paired with a sturdy boot, I slide around inside and get hot spots or blisters.
Very heavily insulated boots are great. . when it is freezing out or if I will be on a stand, but not so great if I am walking far.
Use what you need for the situation.

That's the thing. I hunt mountains in pa. Stand hunting. Leaves, rocks, climbing steep grades at times, deeper snow... I'm going to stick with air bob type sole. Thanks!
